In SAF's later years today's result would have been hailed as a routine away win, when considering his genius in navigating a hard season.
Yet Jose doesn't get much credit and it seems 4-0 every week is what is expected now........
Great result, 6 points better off from same fixtures last season.

Playing poorly and winning is a big upgrade on what we've seen since Fergie retired. We'd have lost or drawn the game in seasons gone by. So there's a positive there.
On the other hand, being a bit critical of the match itself, I thought it was obvious by half time that we needed to change the midfield set up. I said in the match thread. Mourinho left his changes far too late and by the time they were made, the pattern of play was too firmly set.

Got to be honest, and say I didn't watch much of the game. I caught about half an hour of the first half, and about the last 10 minutes of the second. Thought we were OK in the first half, and that Southampton looked on top in the second.
I'll take the result though. 3points in the bag, and we move on to the next game against Palace where we really should put in a performance against what seems like a very poor side if their results are anything to go by.

Games like yesterday i feel we miss Pog, that link between defence and attack.
Yes, we defended exceptionally well, but we shouldnt be under the cosh for 25 mins at Southamption.

Hmm. If we play well against Moscow and Palace, the Southampton win will seem like a good result regardless of the performance. But if we struggle and drop points, it might be seen as the precursor to some poor form.
It's been a strange season. We played well against West Ham and in the closing minutes of some other games, but there has been some really mediocre stuff against Swansea, Stoke, Everton and Saints. I guess people are just hoping that we put together a run of good performances, not just wins, so games like yesterday's feel kind of strange.
