From That To This

The first thought as I left the ground last night was 'How on earth did we get from that 4-0 mauling at Tamworth to what we are seeing now?' That was pretty much our first team on that day.

I recalled how I left The Lamb wondering who would go down with us, if Pesch would resign or if Mr Robinson would sack him. It was all rather clear cut in my mind.

We are playing some brilliant, attacking and entertaining football (with the exception of the Oxford game). They look confident, they look like they are enjoying their football and they are playing as a team. Well done Pesch and the backroom staff.

To those who naturally and understandbly wanted change post-Tamworth and / or after our wretched half-season in 2011, were we wrong? If so, is it too early to admit that we were wrong? What has happened? Is it the late signings and the fact that the strike partnership has gelled so well? Maybe they did not want to risk injury at Tamworth. Maybe we will dive towards the foot of the table and be back to square one later in the season. I can't see it though.

Go steady Otep my good friend its to early yet to think we were right or wrong. In my opinion the signing of Justin Richards was a turning point for us.It was a master stroke but people who know of him would say it was common sense because at this level the man is brilliant ,defenders can not handle him.Zola has come on a bundle playing alongside him and they complement each other.Yes the defenders played well but they didnt have a massive threat did they.Lets stay possitive and if this carries on until the end of the season you and i will go and see Pesc and say sorry for doubting him.

In the same way I wouldn't call for the head of the manager after a couple of bad results and am amazed he's still with us after last year, then I won't be throwing rose petals at his feet as he walks across the Pirelli car park just yet!

It's true to say that the season has started off better than any of us could really have expected, but when we are destroying the fair-to-middling teams out of site I'll agree that Pesch has something special. Until then I'll still tense up whenever the opposition attack down either flank, or when Rhino and James (sounds like a poor country and western duo) leave too much space between themselves when defending. And I'll really hail Pesch as the new messiah if he could only get Corbett to aim the majority of his passes at players wearing the same shirt as he is, or if he could get Macca to stop hoofing the ball needlessly.

I am going to sound really bitter and twisted here, but our attacking is still way to profligate and that is going to come back and bite us on the butt sooner or later. It's ok having 24 chances in a match, but to only get one of those in the back of the net is wasteful. Our defence is still made of glass and is susceptible to counter attacks, so the players need to make those opportunities count much more than they are.

Never happy am I?!

My word Wednesbury whos upset you.I agree the defence is a bit dodgy but Richards strike rate is very good at any level of the game.Chin up my friend we are on the right track, not there yet but it aint that bad.

I didn't mean to sound miserable really but the worry is that our defence is capable of letting in the odd freak goal and we need to score more to ensure we get those wins. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving this season and enjoying watching the team, but when you look at the number of goals to on-target efforts it really is actually not a very good conversion rate.

In saying that though it takes a team a while to gel when new players are introduced, so I am sure things will improve as the season goes on.

In a way it is a better version of our first season when we looked like we would both score a few and concede a few.

There were times last night when Richards and Zola looked like players from a higher level. Bolder too.

Evening Brewers, Another good win for your boys last night and sounds like a real attacking show for your supporters. Think our game Saturday will be more attacking football from both sides now both teams are being rewarded because of it. Sounds like you are
more than holding your own against some strong
teams and I'm so glad you have gone about your
business with a bit of style, total opposite can be said
of Evans from Crawley. I honestly think to him
Morecambe last Saturday was just a formality and it was Swindons scalp he was more looking forward to taking. How wrong was he on both ! Lots of our fans are looking forward to the day out at Burton and you should find them to be well behaved and up for some friendly banter. you deserve and have earned your place in the football league and are proving that with your results.
All the best for the season.
