Embarrassed!

I do not know if you saw that the wonderful US of A will not be at the World Cup! They lost to Trinidad when a draw would have kept them in. It was a perfect storm - even with a loss both Panama and Honduras had to win and they did. They were playing Costa Rica and Mexico who had both qualified and so you wonder if those teams put out their best teams. However, losing to Trinidad who had lost their last seven qualifying game is embarrassing (somewhat like losing to Iceland). Darlington Nagbe of the Portland Timbers was part of the squad, but I do not know if he played as the coverage even in Portland's newspaper did not list the team. FOX maybe the big losers as they out bid others for the TV rights.

At least the USA women are still #1- although they get treated poorly relative to the men's team such as coach air travel while the men go business class. I know most of you are not interested in the women's game, but here the Portland Thorns have national team players from Denmark, France, Canada as well as the USA, and on Saturday are in the Championship Game for this just completed season. Last season we had England's Jodie Taylor, but she had injury problems and returned to England and is now doing well.

On Saturday I can watch the Rovers on the Internet, the Premier League late game on TV, and if I find a friend with the right cable channel, the Thorns (we are "over-the-air" only being mean Yorkshire people!)

It's actually worse than losing to Iceland. Iceland doesn't were at least in the Euros.

OP USA used to have good players like Landon Donovan,Kevin McBride and Brad Freidel but not anymore and have only but themselves to blame for not qualifying for World Cup.Still I wanted them to fail to qualify for World Cup and I am so happy that they failed.

It's nothing like losing to Iceland who are a very good side who qualified top of their European qualifying group.

Losing to Trinidad is far more embarrassing.

Well, in respective perceived stature-at the time England losing to Iceland was a huge shock, so it is comparable.

I still think the USA will win the men's WC next before England . The soccer culture bridging the gender divide means today's female footballers will no doubt encourage their kids into the sport and that will start to reap rewards I the next decade or so.

I could be wrong.

Depends if we can host it in England and rig it like in 66.

Baz tardo saw what I meant:

I'm not sure in the USA if the women's success will lead to more men's success because of a growing soccer culture. Many of my friends who watch American Football consider our football a "girlie game". Of course they are brain dead as you would be after playing American Football (I played Rugby at DGS). Portland is really a "Soccer City" and the Timbers sell out every game at the capacity of 20400 - I know other clubs have bigger attendances but it is our stadium that is the limit. They are adding about 4000 seats over the next two years. The Stadium is in the city and it will be difficult to expand more. There is a waiting list of about 13,000 for season tickets.

The Thorns (our ladies team) had an attendance over over 18,000 for the semi-final - I wish the Rovers could get that sort of crowd.
