Speculation that Fat Sam will be Pulis's replacement.
Whilst i'm not an Allardyce fan, I can see this happening.
There's an element of De Ja Vu about Sam. Pulis took over in similar situation. I agreed with his appointment at the time but once he kept us up I wanted him out because I could see what was coming. Likewise, i'd be happy for us to appoint Allardyce but only on the proviso that it's with a view to lining somebody up for next season and somebody who will get us playing some good stuff on the pitch.
Hopefully the club won't make the same mistake twice. Fat Sam IS NOT the long term solution.
So who's next?

Sorry Al, disagree. Did Watford appoint Silva just for survival? They tried to find someone who could keep them up AND evolve them from their previous functional managers. No-one is expecting to try and break the Sky 6 but there should at least be a plan how we are going to try and establish (or re-establish) ourselves as a top 10-12 team.
There has to be an element of long-term planning. We had an identity under Ashworth and that's how we established ourselves with consecutive top 10 finishes. Swansea, Southampton all had their own blueprints which is how they established themselves. Clubs that are playing just to survive i.e. Bolton, Blackburn, even Wolves under Mick will eventually disappear down the plughole.

My concern with Allardyce is it's such a short sighted appointment. Would he keep us up? Probably, yes. Meanwhile for the next 2 years or whatever we are going to have the same conversations about substance vs style. Then eventually when his magic formula runs out, we'll get rid and move on to the next "firefighter".
It's a perpetual cycle. At some stage we are going to have to move away from this "Premier League or bust" mentality.

I suggested appointing Fat Sam until the end of the season. Not for another 2 or 3 seasons!

No problem Teix, I always respect a well-argued opinion.
What I would say about Watford is that they appear to have been uncommonly lucky. There is no long-term strategy there because they have routinely sacked their manager at the end of the season whether he has done well or not. Silva has inherited a good squad and kicked on but it's not his squad and although his star is in the ascendancy at the moment - his track record in the PL is one full season and one relegation (Hull).
I would argue that the Albion and 12 other clubs in the division are there to make up the numbers. they may aspire to Europe or winning a cup but in reality, it is an achievement just to keep at the top end of those 13 clubs season on season. La Ligua apart, there is no other league where there is such an enormous chasm between the top clubs and the rest.

I dont want anyone from the ESGS. (Endlessly Sacked Gaffers Society).
That Albion are (allegedly) even looking at names on that list of 'has beens' and 'never weres' is a sad indictment of the clubs managment.
Ffs, pick someone like Koeman or an up and coming youngster. If it works for Bournemouth, Huddsfield, Burnley, Watford.. it can work for West Brom cant it?!
Clubs that start dipping into the ESGS are always going to get relegated.

I don't disagree with this Al. Other than cup runs there isn't much more to achieve than 8th place. Ultimately we're all trying to stay out the bottom 3. The best way to stay out of the bottom 3 is debatable.
Coxy- I know. I'm just saying when Pulis was appointed most were happy for him to stay 18months and sort the club out. He ended up staying for 3 years.
