Against Chelsea said Clattenburg, as Spurs conceded the title to Leicester in 2016 season.
Clattenburg says he "went in with a gameplan" so he could not be blamed by Tottenham for losing the title.
Speaking to NBC's Men in Blazers podcast, he said: "I allowed them [Spurs] to self-destruct so all the media, all the people in the world went: 'Tottenham lost the title.'
"If I sent three players off from Tottenham, what are the headlines? 'Clattenburg cost Tottenham the title.' It was pure theatre that Tottenham self-destructed against Chelsea and Leicester won the title."
Asked if he helped to "script" the game, he replied: "I helped the game. I certainly benefited the game by my style of refereeing.
"Some referees would have played by the book; Tottenham would have been down to seven or eight players and probably lost and they would've been looking for an excuse.
"But I didn't give them an excuse, because my gameplan was: Let them lose the title."
Clattenburg says he had to change his style of refereeing when he took charge of European matches.
"The English style of refereeing is different," he added.
"I had to referee differently when I went into Europe because none of the top players in Europe would accept some of the physical contact that went on in the Premier League - but that was the theatre, that's what people loved.
"They love a tackle, they don't want it punished."

Now, I am not sure if he is telling the truth or not, or just an attempt to cover up his inept percormance that day. However if this were is his motives, then this is schocking. It goes to show you that the media in this country have a big influence on referees in this country.
I allowed Spurs to self-destruct

Makes sense why Spurs never get red cards now. The referees just know that by the end of the season, they will bottle it per usual.

Why the fack should Clattenburg give a fack, what the media or anybody else for that matter says about the outcome of a title race.
He only had the one job to do and that was to referee the game legitimately and he managed to nause that up (even if it did end up being a good spectacle though, no thanks to him).
If one team deservedly has 4 players sent off and the other has 2 sent off then so be it. The players set the tone for the match and if they are out of control and need reigning in then just facking do it and people will need to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
These comments say more about Clattenburg's ego than they do about him trying to pretend that it was all part of a well-thought out strategy by a self-proclaimed genius.

Narcissism at it's finest. Probably looking back he is embarrassed at how he managed to get so much wrong on the night and now wants to re-write history to pretend that it was all part of some cunning master plan. As you say it's fooling nobody.

I am surprised/dissapointed more is not been made of this.
He has basically admitted to being corrupt through these comments. My worry is, how many other refs think/act this way.................
This raises massive issues about the integrity of football in our country
