Dembele vs Griffiths

I often find myself sticking up for Griffiths when in my opinion he is harshly criticised by some of my fellow Celtic fans on ja606, I have always maintained that Griff is underrated and is as good as Moussa.

So I thought i'd have a look at the stats to see if my opinions are backed up with numbers.

These are the results, I have used games started as I think it's a fairer way to judge them and don't think it favours any player, but I also included their goals per 90 minutes on the pitch which includes substitute appearances.

Dembele League Stats
Games Started 27 - Goals 21 - Assists 8
Goals for every 90 mins on the pitch 0.74

Griffiths League Stats
Games Started 81 - Goals 70 - Assists 26
Goals for every 90 mins on the pitch 0.86

Games Started 12 - Goals 5 - Assists 0
Goals for every 90 mins on the pitch 0.42

Griffiths Euro Stats
Games Started 21 - Goals 9 - Assists 4
Goals for every 90 mins on the pitch 0.40

With Moussa likely on his way out of the club I think these stats show that we have a player who deserves the full backing of the club and it's supporters.

I don't agree with the theory that we play better football with Moussa either, they have both been involved in loads of games that we we're on fire and a few stinkers too.

Now i'm not saying he's perfect, and I hope we can bring in another high potential young striker like Moussa (if he leaves) to offer a different option and keep wee Leigh on his toes, but for me it's time the groaners gave him the credit and support he's due, coz if he was any better than he is... he wouldn't be here.
