After a successful week in the states we will be returning home with a revitalised squad to face Fraserburgh on Sunday and a home match v the Sheep on the Wednesday. The likelihood is our squad will be quite different going into the second half of the season and both Murty and the DoF deserve some credit. Credit due to the board, once the deals are made permanent
We have managed to shift Pena and his hefty wages off to Mexico and will be spectacular business if we manage to rinse 2m out of them to make the deal permanent. Nemane's loan has been cut short to the benefit of both parties.
In has come Sean Goss on loan from QPR, who looks neat and tidy and should be a good addition to the side. There was no mention of a buy out fee on that loan deal but the fact QPR had barely used him shows he's probably going to be available in the summer, so hopefully he can use this time to earn himself a permanent deal and live up to early comparisons to Carrick.
Jamie Murphy a left winger and almost as importantly a fan of the club has joined on loan with an agreed fee of 1m payable in the summer. Plenty of experience in England and in the Scottish top flight giving us much needed support in the LW position. I see him being a starter from the off and a key player.
Haliday has rejoined to provide more cover in midfield, luckily he can play a variety of positions as competition in CM when everyone is fit will be fierce and i suspect the decision to bring him back was more to do with the struggles he was having out there than any need for us to have him back. Cover only.
O'Halloran gives us extra cover for Candeias and if he can show the form he did for the Saints early season may be able to make that position his own. I expect mostly sub appearances unless he gets the goals.
Joe Dodoo who has also returned will give extra cover on the wings and hopefully take over from Herrera for the 3rd choice striker spot given Hardie's stalled progress.
Onto prospective signings.
Jason Cummings due to sign on a 6 month loan deal with a buy out reported from 600k to 1m. If he can produce like he did for Hibs no doubting we will make that permanent, nice to add a guy with a bit of character as well. Hopefully his arrival paves the way for Herrera to go.
Russell Martin, it's reported we are trying to bring him in on loan. I imagine this can only be to free up Alves to leave. Would be decent business and not a bad shout to add someone with his experience and leadership qualities.
Greg Docherty. Another CM. Good player but I would really like us to ship out a CM if we are planning bringing in another.
Tyler Roberts. The young highly rated West Brom forward, it's reported we are scouting him and getting ready to challenge Marseille to sign him for 300k once his contract expires. Don't know enough about him.
Jordan Jones of Kilmarnock, reported we are tabling a 350k bid. Another highly rated player who I won't claim to know much about.
I must say, pretty excited to see how we look going into the second half of the season and delighted the board seem to finally be taking the most sensible recruitment options rather than continuing to gamble. Who are you most looking forward to seeing? What would be your best 11 if those deals come of?
January Business.

Very strange appointment by Stoke. Given how long Hughes was on the edge you would think they might have had a few people lined up of a higher calibre.

They went for O'Neill, he turned them down he only likes truly scheidt teams like Sunderland and...

It's really cut throat down there. I bet loads of managers would have been successful if given time. If you don't hit the ground running you are out the door in 3-4 months.

English football chairman are a bit odd. They are quite cut throat and give managers little time but at the same time seem to regularly recycle the same old names at each available job expecting hugely different outcomes.

Thing is that these clubs aren’t paying out the stupid fees for players they were only recently so they’re cutting a lot of cloth and the money isn’t the same any more.
Not as easy now.

The hiring and firing does seem to bring an immediate upturn in results for most though.
Look at the longest serving manager in the Prem, he's the most useless.
