Salgado....good enough?

After a lucky display from him at Fulham, could have given away a pen, could have been sent off for different incidents and was given a hard time down that left by Dempsey who is neither quick nor tricky!

Now against an arsenal team with Gervinho back and Walcott who could swap sides to expose a weak link in our defence....is it time for a change?? Problem is lack of decent cover this riberio can't be too great if he has hardly had a run out yet....this is an ideal time for Emo to step in.....oh yeah he was given away for free!!!

Class player but is shown up too many times and has cost us numerous pens and dangerous freekicks already this season!

spot on.

He's a liability waiting to happen. He was diving into every challenge at Fulham and was very lucky. You have to give credit to his attitude but he needs to know when to dive in and when to back off

I agree he could have given away 2 penalties against Fulham but he was far better than Givet on the other side, I'm more concerned about that unless Olsson is moved back there. He's cost us 1 penalty this season that I can recall and 0 free kicks that have been scored from. I'm sure he knows when to dive in and when to back off, he's won the champions league twice! Form is temporary, class is permanent, Salgado's just going through a bad run of form.

I agree to a certain extent and really hope he turns a corner as his attitude is spot on but i worry that this isn't a dip in form but a loss in pace! His errors/ bad tackles don't seem to be a lack of ability or concentration but just not having that bit of pace to into the right positions.

And I agree he was better than Givet, it was a good job Duff was not on form with his final ball last week as he beat Givet 90% of the time.

He did look very old & slow against Fulham.I'd like to see Olsson at right back but i think he's needed at left back as Givet has forgotten how to play there.
I'd still play him rather than blood someone against the Arsenal though.

I mentioned that I thought Salgado (and Nelsen) might find this a season too far. An excellent player in his time and a great servant for us, despite being at the tail end of his career - he marks the difference that Sam has in the game, being able to persuade a player of his reputation to come and mix it with us.

Yes we signed Scott Dann but I think we needed two centre halves (and people can talk about our injury crisis for the opener v Wolves) but the failure to sign the appropriate quality (Ribiero, really?) of defensive replacements is Kean/Venky's fault. We really needed a full back on either side as well (yes a left back would have meant Givet becomes one of the central replacements). Letting Emerton go remains a bizarre decision because of his flexibility in covering multiple positions.

Instead now we have a plethora of forward options (Vukcevic, GW, Roberts, The Yak, Rochina, Formica, Dunn) - none of whom really appear to be first choice. Does Kean even know what he himself is trying to do?
