Walcott Appreciation Thread

It’s quite sad and unfortunate that all I’ve seen is articles bashing or mocking a player who’s played nearly 400 games for our club, scoring an impressive 108 goals (excluding assists) in the process.

Though not a conventional player, and clearly not everyone’s favorite, amassing close to 400 games (only Vieira played more under Wenger, 402 I think), scoring over a hundred goals and a considerable amount of assists primarily from the wings isn’t an easy feat.

Walcott, like every other player, wants to do well and I wish him all the best at Everton FC. He gave us 12 of his best career years and the least he deserves is our appreciation.

Thank you Theo!

I'm surprised I'm yet to see a comment about Theo Walcott becoming one of the best players in the world because he'll have that top bracket player, Rooney, feeding him.

Theo Walcott was a good player for us, he scored 19 in all competitions last season then has been dropped from our first team this season. People often looked for excuses regarding his stats. I remember last season he scored an hatrick against Southampton and many fans said things like "all the goals were easy, it wasn't the strongest Southampton team, he still played sh111t" Astonishing players like Welbeck and Iwobi are ahead of him when both offer nothing. I'm gutted to see Theo leave but he wasn't getting any game time with us this season, and he needed to leave to try and get back in the England frame too. I wish him all the best with Everton and hope he scores plenty for them (just not against us)

Injuries have stunted his progress, just like Wilshere, Ramsey and Ox

Walcott on Hazard and Bale's level That's like saying Darren Bent was on Torres' level. I actually think he was coached very well to reach the level he did for a player with little technical ability, to make the most of his pace, movement and finishing. I see comparisons to Sterling saying how Guardiola has coached him much better but it was clear when he was at Liverpool he was a far superior talent. There was a few times Walcott looked like he was on the verge of really pushing on and tearing the league up but it was always false dawns, either down to injury, inconsistency or lack of desire/weak mentality. Overall he's been a loyal servant to the club, quite a few highlights and wish him all the best at Everton. The comparisons to Henry, and signing him for a massive fee at the time for a teenager when Wenger still had a reputation for unearthing amazing talents created hype that he never had the talent to live up to in the first place. Getting called up to the world cup when he never should have been. Must have been difficult trying to develop in that spotlight.

Careful... you're about to have your strawman argument busted because Jenius will say we're only talking about players from top 4 teams or something.

There is so much that Hazard does that isn't directly assisting or scoring that makes me ask the question. Stats show the end result but not the play that builds up to a goal or assist. That's why I question your statement "on the same level"... also, that you have to go back 6/7 years to show his peak?

Yup, the biggest problem with little Theo is that most of the time it's like playing with 10.5 men - and on bad days when he just hides you have to drop another 0.5 as well.

His general inability to beat a full back with the ball one on one (other than kick and rush) is his worst failing as a winger, but other than his speed & dead ball kicking & shooting (which is moderate) he's carp at just about everything including crossing (he's a winger !). There was a short period at the start of last season I was hopeful that he had matured and was going to put the work in to make the most of his limited ability and be a valuable starter but of course as usual with little Theo it didn't last.

On top of all that he has poor stamina and is injury prone.

Hopefully for his sake Big Sam can get him to perform - I admit our coaching staff are carp but for over 10 years little Theo has just flattered to deceive - laughing all the way to the bank.

I'm worried that the sale of Walcott will come back to bite us.

It's a good move for him though - he'll get the playing time he needs and won't be so heavily in the spotlight at Everton.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him scoring regularly for them and being brought back into the England team

Will miss the pacy Walcott, you scored many goals that Liverpool goal, though Fabrigas donated a goal to Liverpool will remain in our memory. I loved the pace you brought to the team. Now that we don't have pace in the team will shall miss you, i always felt confident when you started a game.
