New look Arsenal with same imbalances

Are we going to be stronger, weaker or the same after the window closes?

We have been poor defensively for many seasons but what used to save us was that we were quite good offensively and would always fashion chances. This season has been an eye opener to see how far we have regressed offensively. We lack creativity, pace, movement, width and ideas.

On the possible arrivals, Aubamayang is a world class striker with blistering pace. A definite upgrade on Giroud as he offers more. In the strikers department, we will be stronger.

Mkhitiriyan was class at Dortmund, not so much at Man utd. Anyways, he is a creator who flourishes in a counter attacking set up. His style is reminiscent of Rosicky in that he speeds up the play when on the ball.

However, I’m not quite sure if those two signings improve the balance of the team. We really need a solid defensive midfielder, a real winger and a solid centre back. Lets say Mkhi and Aub are our only signings, how would you line up your team?

If we do sign Miky and Aubamayang I would be very happy but I 100% agree with you. We need a top class CB and a DM to balance the team out.

Our back line is shambolic if you think about it. Per is gone in the summer, Kos IMO will be finished in the next 12 months. Mustafi still has question marks about him and Chambers and Holding are not good enough.

We should be going all out for players like Manalos or Kouliaby if not both.

Instead of building from the front we should start at the back. Keep a clean sheet and you are guaranteed a point.

Top class CB's are hard to come by these days, with the style you play. Any defender is going to struggle when the midfield is so open, perhaps a DM will help

Yep. Our defence is shocking but the midfield cover is worse. Need to bin Xhaka and get in a proper DM.

Oh, and a decent GK is a priority as well.

difficult to know what type off player xhaka is? doesn't seem to create enough and doesn't offer much support defensively, seems like someone who needs a solid holding player next to him but then wouldn't really be needed for arsenals midfield

Like most said, get in a solid DM and your fortunes could change.

Personally I think our weeakest position for the last 5 seasons has been CF. But after Santi picked up his long term injury CM became a major problem and I think is now more of a problem than CF was. We have then strengthened at Cf bringing in Laca and now looking like we might get PEA (but Im never confident of Arsenal completing deals these days).

We have also sold or are selling some CM and attacking midfield players. Sanchez, Walcott, Campbell, Perez, etc will all be gone by the end of the summer. This will leave midfield very weak and the area that needs strengthening desperately.

After already losing Ox and Coq, with Santi injured, Xhaka not up to the job, etc if we dont strengthen in midfield by the end of this window I will be very concerned about our strength in the first team let alone in depth. We need a player who can protect the defence and even if they dont win the ball, they buy a bit of time for the defence to get organised. That has been the biggest cause of our defensive problems, too much pressure on the defence too quick with no time to get organised.
