Klopps kopped a defence!

The much maligned, the porous few and the knowledge that whilst attacking Liverpool are amongst Europe's best sides its in defence that mistakes keep us from a credible title challenge.

When Klopp joined we had such luminaries in defence as Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren, Moreno (indeed Klopps first game in charge had 5 of those 6 in the team) with the likes of Iilori, Enrique, Lovren, Widom and Toure waiting for their chance to impress.

If we compare now, we can see the defence has changed massively, contrary to popular opinion.

Mignolet...Officially dropped to be Liverpools No2 just a few days ago;
Lovren...Liverpools No 1 CB seems to be replaced by VVD.
Moreno...Robertson signed and sems to have locked down the LB slot;
Sakho.....Binned by Klopp after falling full of discipline protocols;
Skrtel......Binned by Klopp, deemed not good enough imo;
Widom....Binned;
Enrique...Binned
Iilor.........Binned
Toure....put in some great performances, but eventually let go;

Klopp has signed, VVD..Matip. .Robertson..Karius, Klavan and brought through Gomez and TAA. If you look at the present defence and compare with the previous its a massive improvement.

VVD & Matip....potentially has everything needed for a top cb partnership, time will tell but its vastly superior to when klopp first joined. Klavan looks a solid 3rd choice and arguably playing better than Lovren.

TAA/Gomez/Clyne....Arguably Liverpools strongest defence area, all 3 are vying for the No 1 RB spot and Clyne is under serious threat.

Robertson....Looks like the problem LB is solved, still early days but it's noticeable opposition managers have not targeted this area since Moreno has been absent. Massive upgrade on Moreno defensively.

Karius has not shown the promise yet, hes looked dodgy in some games and to me seems very slow, almost casual. However, its telling Klopp has come out and said Karius is Liverpools Number 1...a massive vote of confidence. We wait and see if Karius is the real deal or not.

Gomez..Matip...VVD..Robertson

With TAA..Moreno. .Mignolet. .Milner..Lovren all taking second spot. Clyne could come back in as the 1st choice RB, if he did to me its fine; he is the only original defender of any note imo.
