Ultimately the mistake is Wenger's for not tying down our best players to new contracts when things came to a head eighteen months ago. However, last summer in desperation, the popular refrain from fans was "Pay em what they want" in order to get their signatures.
Now that it has transpired that Sanchez's new contract will be worth an estimated £1/2m a week, one can see that allowing the tail to wag the dog is not necessarily the best way forward? Even Man City with their reported wealth was not going to be held to ransom by the greedy demands of Sanchez. It is clear to see that City equated Sanchez's wage demands with his ability as a player and the potential for future wage demand disruptions from other players and have thought this is a problem better left alone. We will see how this saga pans out at UTD but I think for Arsenal, selling Sanchez was the only option left on the table.
Pay em what they want....WTF?!

It’s £505k according to the press
Unless you were there when the contracts were negotiated...

Wenger traditionally doesnt sign players who are a bit maverick, does he? He signs young meek players that grow up to stay in line and respect him. So it does make sense that PEA isn't a Wenger signing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not true. Wenger did try to buy Suarez. But you are correct he doesn't like controversy which is why he backed off and Liverpool made us look like mugs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesnt like controversy and is signing Aubameyang who forced his way out of Dortmund.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Reports suggest that this down to Raul S and the new scouting team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You blame Wenger for everything and you now suggesting Auba/Mhiki will be signed without Wenger's committment, right?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope. I think its not a signing Wenger would have made a season ago. He signed Lacazette. Whats changed in 6 months apart from a new chief scout and a new director of football?
I hope Wenger agreed with it and he will play him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------Yes he’s obviously being signed to play in the reserves

According to Matt Law. Plenty of journos are saying it's 350k a week plus image rights. More reliable ones like Di Marzio for example..
Matt Laws "exclusive" article about the 500k came across as a bitter rant against Utd.
We pay Pogba 280k a week. I seriously doubt we've gone from 280 to 500k on.one player. In fact I'd put my house on the line that figure is BS.

Image right must be £155k/week then

Doubtful. Extremely doubtful.
Some press are saying 350k. Some 400k, some.450k and Matt Law 500k.
Truth is they all have no clue. They all thought he was city bound 8 days ago ffs. Clueless.

doubt hes getting more than 300k...which is way too much for anybody...even a player that gauranteed double hattricks every game...its just an obscene ammount of money for anyone when there is starving nkids in the world...this is one of the reasons why.

The breakdown in wages isn't actually known. The press said the 350k on the low end to 500k on the high end. I've seen some even say 600k. So we can see that it is guesswork.
Remember, when City initially backed away, it was due to not wanting to meet Arsenal's price (£35m) and pay £5m agent fees (£40m total), but now the press are spinning as City not wanting to pay the wages. Yet, they were seemingly happy to offer £20m for him, which Arsenal deemed too low. So either the press are making things up, or they are being fed different things at different times from clubs. I think City thought they could low ball Arsenal into selling for £20m as he would be free in a few months and they'd do what they did in the summer and wait till the Last minute of the window. They didn't think United would come in and Sanchez to agree to join United.
The way stories come about and change, you can bet some PR guy at City put it out after United came in for him that City didn't want to pay the wages. They were seemingly willing to do business had Arsenal accepted £20m offer.
