Oddly, I can't remember many childhood Christmases, but I do remember the Scalextric one – must have been about 1961.
My younger brother had somehow divined that's what we were getting, so we crept downstairs at about 6am to find it all laid out on the living room floor. Figure of eight, with British racing green and royal blue Lister Jaguars. We didn't wait for parental consent before getting stuck in!

This site's a great archive of Le Mans history, I've spent hours in there.

Scalextric is awesome

Having a second childhood through my boys

The one thing we wanted that the folks didn’t treat us to ☹️ but dad built an awesome scenery out of papier mache for an 00 gauge train set. We sometimes forgot to open the level crossing gates so trains crashed into them πŸ˜—

So that's where it all stared from hmmm 😝

I got sick of every flipping car or train I had coming off the track when it went round the bend, so I spent the rest of my childhood making scale buses out of Lego and collecting stamps. Allez le bleu by the way.

Dublin - surely you can convert the whole of your living space in to the national rail, Eurostar and TGV network required to get to Le Mans out of Hornby.

That can be your next project.

Dennis Berkamp would know all the inter rail routes around Europe no doubt. Get him in as a consultant.

Hope you’re feeling better soon and hopefully the foxes keep a smile on your face.

Loved the scalextric when I was a youngster. My mate lived in a massive old farmhouse and he had loads of really old track that he used to set up underneath an old snooker table. Those were the days.

Keep taking the morphine Dublin and enjoying the footie as much as you can.

I take it you are not able to get to the King Power in person these days?

No travelling is out at the moment ,
But never say no got my mobility
So may have physical transport by the spring
Then see how I am at being away from the house
Id need to plan for timing for
Food, mild drugs, rest break, toilets, for each journey plus
Possibly a nap before doing the rtn journey home

Plus an emergency medical kit on standby
Just takes planning oh and feeling well enough as well 😝
Never say never πŸ˜ŒπŸ™ƒπŸ˜―
