Can’t say anyone from the Greek leagues excites me, and seems harsh on pantz if he’s gonna heft replaces after one mistake.

Then again, pantz is only on loan till the end of the season, and this might be a signing for beyond that.

He’s only 23 so he is a similar age to Smith. I would say Evtimov and Erlandsson are the ones who should be the worried ones as I think they’ll be pushed further down the pecking order or maybe even out of the door if this lad signs.

I think Pantilimon is a short term fix just to try and command the penalty area a bit more. The only real difference between Pants and Smith is experience. Pants will probably be a bit more vocal and inject a bit more urgency into the defence. I reckon there’ll be further moves in that area in the summer and Pants will have to have a storming second half of the season to earn a long term deal at the CG.

I have some serious misgivings about the January recruitment strategy.

I know what you mean. They haven’t recruited for the future, they’ve recruited for now. I guess they were worried recent firm would see them drop into a relegation battle. That’s why the majority are loans and short term deals, with the exception of the stand out signings of Lolley, Figueiredo and Watson. I think Karanka will remould the squad again in the summer, provider this re-jig has the desired effect.

Everyone’s entitled to be sceptical of this window, with a new manager and a new strategy.

On face value, for me, I’m happy with the style. If we get promoted in the next couple years we will be looking at a squad overhaul. If we haven’t been promoted, it will be because they can’t cut it and again, will need restructuring. We shouldnt be tied down with players not good enough for whichever level we are at.

Which is a lot better than offering 3-4 year contracts to the likes of vellios, McKay, Cummings, and darikwa. Most of which were unproven at this level. A fair percentage of those brought in this time round are atleast proven at this level



Healthy sceptisms good though, those that thought the summer window was the dogs bollox have been burned pretty bad.
