Forest V The Royals Match Thread

The Reading FC supporters trust has called on fans to stop the bickering and pull together for the final 15 games this season.

Royals sit in 18th place in the Championship table on 32 points, only four above the relegation zone.

Jaap Stam's side return to league action with a trip to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night and the Supporters Trust at Reading (STAR) says fans must rally together to help the club avoid the drop.

"We're well aware of the often heated debates among Reading fans about our current form and predicament - we have them among the STAR Board ourselves," the trust said in a statement.

"Whether you like it or not the club appear to have made the decision to back the manager, provided him with two experienced players and taken the squad away for a hopefully reviving break in Spain.

"We've had a 10 day break since the last game, a chance to recharge batteries and wipe the slate clean. Start again time at Forest.
[Shamelessly nicked from the STAR webpage]

It's fair to say that Reading have not enjoyed the season that their supporters were expecting and Stam himself questioned whether he would carry on as manager. They had a bad October, apart from beating us 3-1 at the end of the month: other results of note, a thumping 2-4 result away to the sheep four days later.

It's really January and February that has pushed them down into the relegation scrummage. They've just had a nice break away in Spain, drinking white rum hopefully, so let's hope for a cooler night on Trent-side tomorrow evening.

Stam is probably targeting all three points tomorrow to set his team up for the following two games, Derby and the Blades at home.

Looking at the table both Hull and Reading only need to draw level on points to go above us on goal difference, now how ironic would that be?

After a hard fought point against a Burton team looking to exploit any aerial weakness in the Forest defence, Karanka will look to contain Reading while capitalising on any mistakes at the back.

Eric Lichaj will be missing for the next three games after his straight red and he will be the most difficult player to replace. Will Karanka start with the back four that finished the Burton game? or will Mancienne start at Right Back?
I suspect that Karanka is trying to build some togetherness into the ten players that finished the game, so I don't anticipate more than two changes to the starting eleven.

Improving for sure. Who was that Darikwa player? Looked a right steal tonight.

We've got a chance at QPR if we play like that.

Wendies are looking a soft touch at the moment, probably improve by the time we play em though!

Yet again it may come down to us scoring the first goal.
Having seen the chances we created tonight I can’t believe how more than one didn’t go in, still HOPEFULLY it could prove to be a turning point.
The difference between us scoring or conceding first are poles apart.

Reading could/should have been out of sight by half time. I am not really seeing the improvement defensively as both burton and reading missed clear chances.

We have taken 2 points from 3 games we really should be looking to get 7pts at least.

People seem optimistic because we creating a few chances second half at home against a team that have been dreadful all year.

Just not seeing it at the moment, feel as a team we have gone backwards massively since December.

That’ll be due to the disruptive sacking of yet another manager half way through the season. Every time it has happened over the past several years, Forest have limped through the rest of the season to an unsatisfactory conclusion. There’ll be no significant change in this outlook until there is a semblance of stability at the CG.
