New Cars 2018

Morning all, a lot of the new cars have been released and will update this thread with them as we go along.

Yes the Halo is not nice, enough about it already

Like the RedBull livery, shame they are not keeping it.

the red bull looks hella slick too. Hope they keep that.

What the hell is the deal with the metal bar things over the cockpit though?!

That's known as a halo and is a mandatory requirement for all F1 cars this year, designed to protect drivers heads. Looks ridiculous though, like a freakin flip flop on the car.

So far, liking the liveries of the Renault and Red Bull (even though its temp). Merc today looks pretty much the same as last year, but they will probably be the fastest once again. Ferrari...its pretty damn red lol. Looking forward to seeing the McLaren tomorrow.

oh and its right infront of their face, doesnt seem like it would obscure their vision atall..

I’ve always thought that the halo makes a bit more sense than having some sort of screen because the screen will eventually get dirty from following another car and I doubt they will fit the cars with wipers and screen wash. Perhaps having tear-offs on the screen like what the drivers have on their helmet visors might have worked.

I don’t think the halo looks that bad anyway. Surprises me that they didn’t think to make the front part or even the whole halo see-through so it’s less vision obscuring (was that obvious to an ordinary guy like me and not these developers?)

Sorry Bumblebee, I was being sarcastic due to all the talk there has been over the last year.

I have no idea which windscreen/halo is more effective or more desireable. I would imagine that the engineers would prefer the windshield as it would prob aid in aero. I dont think ti would be too hard to put a wiper on the screen. they manage it in the rest of motorsport....if in rallies they can keep the screen clear enough then I dont think F1 would have that much trouble.

Love the look of the new McLaren but that Halo - it's an abomination.
It goes against the spirit of what an F1 car should look like.
F1 is a dangerous sport. Get over it.
Why don't we ban tackles in Rugby and make it touch Rugby? That would make it safer.
I hope enough viewers vote with their feet so the FIA are forced to remove the Halo.
I think I would prefer a completely closed cockpit to that ugly thing.

What is up with McLaren, they ditch the Honda engine because they felt it was under powered and unreliable, yet Toro Rosso with Honda have had no reliability issues, and McLaren just keep breaking down constantly with the Renault engine. Something is seriously wrong with that team...shame really as a McLaren fan seeing them becoming a joke of an F1 team.

McLaren are just $hit, have been since 2009. Coincidentally from around the time they started making new road cars more regularly.
