Leeds Utd v Brentford Matchday Thread

Welcome to the thread, after a pretty disappointing draw on Weds night it's time to (hopefully) get back to winning ways with the visit of Brentford to Elland Road................sitting just one place above us in the League but on a slightly better run of form

Venue Elland Road....Date...24th Feb...Kick Off 15:00hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Pablo Hernandez is expected to recover from a groin strain in time for the home game against Brentford.
Hernandez was forced out of the midweek draw at Derby but hopes to be fit, while Kemar Roofe and Pierre-Michel Lasogga are also likely to shake off knocks. Samuel Saiz is pushing for a starting place. January signing Tyler Roberts' debut is on hold due to a shin injury, while defenders Luke Ayling and Conor Shaughnessy (both ankle) remain sidelined.

Brentford
Brentford are expected to be without midfielder Nico Yennaris again, but Lewis Macleod and Sergi Canos are back in contention. Yennaris missed last week's win at Sunderland due to personal reasons and played no part in the midweek victory against Birmingham due to illness.
Macleod returned to full training this week following injury and Canos has completed a three-game ban. Josh McEachran is available after recovering from a blow to the ribs which forced him off against Birmingham, but Rico Henry (knee) is still out.

Opta stats
Leeds have lost just one of their last 12 home matches against Brentford in all competitions (W6 D5), losing 1-0 in February 2015.
The Bees have lost one of their last nine league matches against the Whites (W4 D4), with that defeat in this exact fixture last season.
After a run of three successive clean sheets at home, Leeds have shipped at least twice in their last three league games at Elland Road, conceding 10 goals in total.
Brentford have won their last two league games, scoring seven and conceding none. They last won three in a row without conceding in league competition in October 2015.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga has found the net for Leeds in each of his last three league games; his best run since scoring in four successive games for Hamburg in the Bundesliga in October 2013.
Neal Maupay has scored in back-to-back league games for the third time this season (also in August and November), and is looking to score in three straight Championship games for the first time.

So we're up against a side that's rattled in 7 goals in their last 2 games and kept a clean sheet in both bit of a challenge then
If Leeds perform the way we know they can i think we'll be 2-0 up by Half time and 3-0 at the final whistle sounds unlikely but i'll stick with that prediction, Soggy x 2 and Saiz

Other than O'Kane I thought it was a good team performance.

If they had scored from that punch out which went STRAIGHT to a Brentford player, he'd have been lynched by fan. Ffs that was a stupid a decision I've seen and he's got to go

Seventh most clean sheets in the division this season, whilst playing less games than all the people above him :

Even with Felix between the Styx?

Lubo is right that getting on players backs is counter-productive. I don’t agree with the crowd jeering or cheering sarcastically. It’s cruel and unnecessary and impacts on confidence so it’s bad for the player and the team.

But this is a forum for discussion. So it’s a place to call it as you see it. Judging him on clean sheets in games he barely touched the ball is laughable. He’s a liability... he’s cost us plenty of points this season and come close to costing us plenty more.

Felix did ok today but he won't be our keeper next season

Wiedwald collected a lot of clean sheets early in the season when he didnt touch the ball for weeks we were defending that well. Easy to find a statistic to suit ones argument - all politicians can do that. Hes been a poor keeper for Leeds end of. I fully agree that sarcasm against him wont do his confidence any good but had he performed this season he wouldnt be in the hole he is.
