On Friday 30th March Wolves visit the Riverside Stadium to take on Middlesbrough.
Wolves haven’t beaten Middlesbrough on the road since April 1951 but Nuno Espirito Santo will not be taking his wolfpack there on Friday hoping for a point. With both teams having benefitted from a 2 week break, with Nuno’s squad back to full strength thanks to the return of star performer Diogo Jota and under the watchful eyes of the Sky TV cameras, this has all the ingredients for a first class game between two of the best teams in the league.
Both teams have much to gain by taking 3 points from this game. Boro’ currently in 6th position in the table are in a group of 5 teams, separated by just 2 points and all battling for a place in the playoffs.
Wolves need just 12 points from their final 8 games to guarantee promotion but to secure the league title may require closer to 20 points so for them, every point is a prisoner.
The first game of the season saw Boro’ visit Molineux where Wolves took a narrow victory with a single Bonatini goal being the difference between the two sides.
Since then, Boro’ have sacked Gary Monk and on Boxing Day 2017 turned to Tony Pulis to steer them to the Premiership. Pulis has the proud record of never being relegated as a player, coach or manager, however, had he remained at West Bromwich Albion, that record would undoubtedly have ended.
Pulis has now been in charge of Boro’ for 14 (league) games, winning 7, losing 4 and drawing 3.
Boro’ are currently unbeaten in 6 and in those 6 games have scored 14 goals.
In contrast Wolves have won just 3 of their last 6 (L 2, D1) but despite that they have netted 12 times in those 6 games with January loan signing Benik Afobe scoring 4 in 4.
Gem’s prediction: 1-2

For the moment (and I know it may not be for long) Mick McCarthy is the best manager we have ever had. 9 months from now that may not be the case.

Mick isn’t the best manager we have ever had but he certainly is since the early 80s. Let’s hope Nuno sticks around long enough to give us more than 3 years in the top flight

Although we haven’t won at Boro since 1951 and Boro are on decent form it’s worth noting that Boro have played 9 games so far this season against the teams currently in the top 7, and they have drawn 2 and lost 7 of those games

They do have a terrible record against the top sides, Fulham I believe have the best record thus far

With Pardew a certainty to be sacked at the end of the season, would Albion dare appoint a former Wolves manager?

Less than 1,000 tickets unsold at the moment for Tuesday’s home game against Hull

Not sure Lambert would want it, or Jackett.
