Question

Hi lads

Quick question – if Arsenal win the Europa League do they take the champions league spot away from whom ever finishes 4th in the Premier League? I know that wasn’t the case last season when United won that competition but I heard a rumour that the rule has changed?

Any know for definite the position on this?

I really don't like the way that the Europa has become a below stairs way for poor English teams to get themselves into the CL. Lets hope when they eventually meet Atletico sort Arsenal out but as they will have already qualified through La Liga I fear the Gooners greater incentive may see them prevail.

I don't have a problem with Europa winners getting CL, I do however have a problem with teams who failed in the CL getting a second bite at the cherry by falling into Europa.

Our priority was qualifying for the CL so we concentrated on trying to qualify for the CL. I'm probably being dense but I don't understand your point.

OK mate, so if Spurs were offered a cl place they would have won the Europa. But they chose not to because it wasn't worth winning at that time right?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We were trying and failing to get into the top 4. In the same way Arsenal are prioritising the Europa we had to concentrate on the Prem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Excuses excuses , so because you couldn't win or even get to the final of the Europa, u prioritised to try to get in and win the harder competition, makes no sense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Errrr. CL wasn't the prize at the end of the EL back in those days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know that. He's saying they focused on top 4 instead. So because CL wasn't on offer at that time, it's no excuse to not try to win a European trophy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You might not like it but its what we did. They gave the Europa a cl place to try and stop teams playing weakened sides in the knock out stages. Surely you know this?

I understand this Paul. What i don't get is how you can basically tell me that Spurs CHOSE not to win the Europa because no CL place was on offer? Or because it was too hard to win, they focused on top 4, to get in the CL, which is a harder comp to win? Or, winning trophies is down the priority list, after gaining a top 4 place?

We put weakened teams out in the Europa and I'm not going to tell you why again.

I'm sure the club would of been happy to win it with the players that were chosen but that wasn't going to happen.

Why are you pretending to be so naive about this?

Its like me saying I don't understand why Arsenal keep falsifying their attendances.

Paul, this all started when you said it's harder to get top 4 than Europa, which i don't agree with.

About Arsenal falsifying attendances, i dont make up stuff, the truth is that the fans are not happy, so they are not turning up, i try not to make excuses for my teams failings.

Surely Arsenals failure to make the top 4 and the prioritising of the Europa as a result (just like Utd did) shows Its easier.

I know why Arsenal falsify their attendances and my point was I'm not going to pretend I don't whereas you were making out you couldn't understand why Spurs played the b listers in the Europa when you know exactly why. Whether you agree with it is a separate issue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
But us (and Utd) only prioritsed this cup when we KNEW we couldn't make the top 4, Spurs didn't even try to do that whenever they were not in contention for the top 4.
How can you call a competition that your team hasn't won as easier than something that your team has done before (top 4)?

Europa league and CL should be totally separate. No pathway from one to another at all.
