Thought our set-up was very strange vs City yesterday. They have amazing pace all over the pitch, so we have our slowest full-backs ( I know ROse is out and also been sub-par this season) and pushed them up the pitch where they were no threat, and also unable to get back to support the defence.
We also played none of our own pace up front which allowed Man CIty to push up with ease whenever they wanted. I like lamela, and his work in the pressing game, but Moura and or Son should have started to give the city back line something to think about.
It bothers me that Moura, who was on for fifteen minutes or so, got in more dangerous positions and crosses then our wing-backs and Lamela did all game.
I know people say there's no shame to losing to the best team in the country, but there is a shame in our team having regressed so blatantly in the wing-back position since last year. Needs a major re-think over the summer and if we still play with davies and trippier, need to re-think how we set up our fullbacks against teams with pace.
Odd set-up

I think half the problem is that now we have so many AMs available poch has completely abandoned the back 3 formation.
Yesterday was a prime example that if we are to play Trippier & Davies against elite players then the back 3 wing back formation is essential imo

They were far from the only issue yesterday, but I struggle to see what Davies and Trippier were supposed to offer. Can’t take a man on and barely put in any crosses of note, especially Trippier.
Was quite evident within about 10 mins that Delph moving into midfield when City had possession freed up Silva and De Bruyne to then basically play as AM’s, thought Poch should have reacted and either gone to a 433 or 5311 to negate that.

Definitely would have started with Aurier and Son against City, both offer the one thing City have in abundance, PACE.
But always easy after the event I suppose. Be interesting to see team selection midweek, with the semi-final in mind at the weekend.
