Wallace & Miller

RANGERS will today sack Kenny Miller and suspend skipper Lee Wallace after a furious Hampden bust-up with gaffer Graeme Murty on Sunday.

The 38-year-old former Scotland striker’s contract runs out at the end of the season but he’ll have his deal paid up in full and then be immediately shown the door.

Captain Wallace, 30, also seems certain to have played his last game for the club.

The experienced left-back has been out of the side with an injury since September and wasn’t stripped for the Scottish Cup semi-final clash.

But he joined his team-mates after the final whistle and stands accused of showing Murty a lack of respect with an angry outburst.

Wallace still has another year remaining on his contract — and club chiefs are planning to suspend him pending an internal investigation into what happened.

A high-ranking Gers source told SunSport: “The Ibrox hierarchy are raging with the behaviour of the club’s most senior player and club captain after Sunday’s defeat.

“The powers-that-be believe the manager has been undermined and have decided to take action.

“They don’t think what happened in the dressing room is acceptable."

Suited Wallace is believed to have vented his anger towards Murty for the team’s poor performance against Celts.

Then Miller — an unused sub in the game — had his say. The Gers boss refused to accept their criticism.

In his after-match press conference the under-pressure boss admitted: “There was emotion, anger, disappointment — all the things you’d expect after a game like that."

Now though it’s emerged Murty has held talks with Gers directors and decided he wants Miller and Wallace OUT of his squad.

Both have been model professionals throughout their careers but the club feel they must back their manager.

It’s the first sign of a new hardline approach since chairman Dave King appointed Douglas Park as his right-hand man.

But crucially it’s Murty who is believed to have demanded action be taken against the outspoken duo.

The Gers source added: “This is a strong message the manager is sending out. He feels these players have questioned his authority previously and has taken the view that there can be no dissent or negativity within the club’s own ranks.

“There is a job that still needs to be done with five games remaining of the season and the manager feels he needs to send out a message that he’s the man in charge — and no one else.

“The players need to back him but more importantly repay the faith of the supporters."

I have rethought my attitude to this
I do not rate Murty but if there was anyone to have a go at after that game it was the bastirts who rolled over

It’s 100% the board at fault for this mess. They threw Murty in the scheidt while they continued to f@ck about and STILL not get a f@cking manager!

As I’ve said before I feel sorry for Murty.

That's my thoughts too. How can you play in a game like that knowing the importance of it to the club and fans and give that kind of performance!

The thing is, miller and Wallace have stood by the club and delivered in worse times than this, so I don't want them to exit the club under these circumstances. I would hope the club would deal with them via a fine and move on to investigate and resolve the actual issue of what caused that poor performance and the players disregarding tactics.

Rangers have fined club captain Lee Wallace the maximum four weeks' wages after a dressing-room bust-up with former manager Graeme Murty, STV can reveal.

Veteran striker Kenny Miller, 38, has also been dealt a financial punishment, which is believed to be less severe.

The club took action after Wallace, 30, vented his anger at Murty following the 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic in April, with team-mate Miller also heavily critical.

The Rangers hierarchy felt that the pair crossed a line and, after talks with managing director Stewart Robertson and human resources staff, both players were suspended on full pay and told to stay away.

STV understands Wallace's suspension from the club has now been lifted.

It's believed that Rangers spoke to some of the players who witnessed the incident as part of their investigation.

Miller's suspension meant his Rangers career was all but over with his contract expiring at the end of the season, while Wallace, who has a deal running until summer 2019, finds his long-term future in doubt.

Both players could appeal their fine by one of three ways - to the club, the SPFL or the SFA.

Or Miller and Wallace could bypass the footballing authorities and take Rangers to an employment tribunal, which would put the club's entire investigation under the microscope.

Miller, who had scored against Dundee on his return to the first team a week earlier, was an unnamed substitute for the Celtic defeat, while Wallace has been a long-term absentee through injury.

It comes on the eve of new manager Steven Gerrard's first official day in the Rangers hot seat.

The former Liverpool midfielder is not expected to be in Glasgow on Friday and will instead be out of the country on transfer business.

Rangers players will return for pre-season training on June 15.
