We gave a welcome boost to our goal difference last night and thankfully managed to avoid defeat against winless Brechin that would have compounded our 'banter' season.

I'll be honest, at half time and the score still reading 0-0 - and seemingly we did not play well in the first half - I feared the worst. Thankfully McDonald came off the bench to score twice and King, Fraser (with a sublime freekick) and Mohsni sealed the rout.

So where does this leave us? Well, it means we now, incredibly, have more points on the board than we did last season. We now have 58 points with two games to play and we now sit in third place, a point behind Livingston who have a game in hand.

We aren't completely secure for the play-offs yet - ICT can still reach 59 but they have to play four games between now and next weekend to complete their season so it might be a challenge for them.

Our remaining fixtures aren't straightforward though - QOTS away on Saturday then a final game of the season against Livingston which might just be a crucial game for second place if Livi drop points between now and then.

I'm really pleased with the last week or so. Three wins, three clean sheets and, finally, some goals last night. I'm not getting carried away but it makes me a little more optimistic that we'll get to the Premiership play-off round where I'm still convinced we'll fall short. The next two games will perhaps show if that optimism is justified or not.

I don't disagree, although I think he would do a job at a bottom six side in the Premiership.

He's brought an aggressiveness in the air and combined it with a willingness to play out from the back that we've been massively lacking. Occasionally plays us into trouble but as you say we aren't always punished for that.

Yes, it’s his ability to play out, not just sideways which is making the difference to the team going forward. Tell you what though, I’m flipping hopeless - gone from black depression about Utd to looking at the points and the GD swing we need to finish 2nd and thinking we can do it. Will I ever learn...?!

I'll be honest, I've started thinking with a wee bit of luck we might just get promoted

When we get pumped from QOTS I'll start sweating that we won't even make the play-offs

You know what’ll happen on Saturday, all the results will be going our way then we’ll throw away a two goal lead and be scuppered.

Smid - interesting comments about Mohsni, I think the fans have really taken to him because of his work rate and aggression (controlled thus far), need to make sure we’re not too encouraging, then, or it might bring his performance level down!

United coming up with St Mirren would be the perfect end to a good season for me.

Anyone from Thistle who are bottom to Hamilton in 9th could go down.

"England to win the World Cup"

If Gareth Southgate wins the World Cup then it's the clearest evidence yet we're living in a computer program, and it has a serious glitch.
