Patrick Vieira.

Once again the question of who our next manager will be is high on the media agenda.

Although most signs point to Wenger seeing out his contract, their is still great speculation.

Patrick Vieira is todays favourite. Great player, great captain and great influence in the Arsenal team during his playing days.
He has a couple of seasons as a manager in the MLS, after working within the Manchester City youth set up.

Is Vieira a viable candidate?
Would Vieira be a choice of nostalgia over quality?
Is Vieiras lack of experience as a manager in Europe too much of a negative?
Would employing such an inexperienced manager be a sign of our current status, and reason to believe we cannot attract a top manager?

What signs are there to suggest Wenger is going to see out his contract?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wenger "I am staying"
Arsenal board "We will not sack Wenger"

Those sort of signs.

MLS.

Not "The" MLS

Did the board recently say that we are not going to sack or 'move' Wenger?

Don't care what Wenger says. We already know he doesn't have the self respect to acknowledge his own limitations.

I am not keen on this trend of naming ex players as potential candidates. Vieria was a top player and may well be a great manager one day, but he needs to manage a European club first.

I totally dismiss as bad ideas the like of Henry, Bergkamp, Arteta etc at this stage.

I would however like to see Arteta more than the others as I have a hunch he could be a good manager.

So assuming Wenger stays for another year (i still think he won't) then the appointment of the next manager depends on the state the club will be in from May 2019.

If you go about the current trend line then we will be comfortably out of the top 4 and nowhere in sight for the title. That's asking a lot of a relatively inexperienced manager (european management) to get us back to challenging.

Of course it might be a success or most likely would be a costly mistake (time wise). I'm not sure the board would have the bottle to appoint someone that green.

Best bet would be to get in an experienced head coach and slot Arteta alongside him, with a view to placing Mikel as a long term manager.

Although i'm not against appointing Vieira. Anyone other than Wenger.

-----------

Isn't that what City are doing with Arteta and Pep? Boats probably already sailed on that one for Arsenal.

Would be exactly the same as when they brought George Graham back. Glad to hear Paddy is the favourite

Don't think Vieira is the "favourite". He's on of several options the board is struggling to decide between.

Worth reading this article. An account of what Vieira is like from some of his former players.
