The play-offs began in earnest last night with United and Dunfermline cancelling each other out at East End Park in a predictably tight affair.

Disclaimer - I wasn't at the game so I'm basing this on listening to the radio and my mates texts.

It seemed the first half hour or so was a battle, with neither team doing much offensively. Dunfermline however took control of the game towards the end of the half and continued that into the second half until they were reduced to ten men - and apparently it was a very soft red card, their player taking out McDonald and it being deemed to be denying a goal scoring opportunity by Bobby Madden.

United then took control of the game and had chances including one off the line, but then so did Dunfermline over the piece of the game, hitting the bar in the first half and forcing a couple of very good stops from Deniz. I suspect a draw was probably a fair result.

It feels like a missed opportunity but given our dreadful away form I'd have taken a draw before the game. Hopefully the team can do the business on Friday night and put us into the next round.

Mon the Terrors

In other United news, Darren Taylor has left his role and given our horrendous player recruitment and his lack of suitability for the role this will surely be welcomed by everyone connected to the club.

They've been averaging around 5k too. Bizarre that they didn't have closer to 7500.

Suggests the pricing was wrong when you're basically asking home fans to fork out £45-55 for three games of football in a few weeks (if they play all three games) or double that if they attend home and away.

What is the deal in the playoffs with away goals? Do they count or not?

I don't really follow lower league football but I don't think away goals count, which I assume is why United didn't waste time trying to score any.

Cheers Glen, I don't follow the diddy leagues either so wasn't sure what the rules were and if they play the same as the big boys or if it is basically like a glorified game of 5s.

I think it's like the equivalent of touch rugby up to that level, but instead of banning tackles, they ban goals so that it doesn't dent the poor we lad's confidence while they are playing down at that level. Both sides are winners and did really, really well.

Worth noting that both your teams have spent more time in the lower leagues this century than Dundee United

Sorry didn't mean to kick you while you're down, but you've been down for ages now, and doesn't look like changing soon, so the foot is getting twitchy.

Really entertaining game last night, both ‘keepers were on good form. I suppose before the game you would have taken a draw and after it it’s frustrating that we didn’t capitalise on the red card. For me it looked at the time like he had caught Mcdonald’s face and I thought that’s what it was for - guess we need to wait and see if it was for denying a goalscoring opportunity or not.

Surprised by the team selection if I’m being honest, really thought Stanton should have started ahead of Flood. Mikkelsson is an empty shirt, can’t trap the ball, can’t win it in the air and gives away far too many free kicks. When they went down to ten men I thought the obvious player to bring on would be McMullan, stick him on the right and really stretch them, but he had set up to not concede and it’s like they had forgotten how to attack properly!

Really feel for Robson, the lad’s confidence has completely gone and if there was another option for Friday I would consider it, the Utd fans were starting to get on his back last night and you can actually see it affecting him, it’s a real shame. The problem is the alternative is Scobbie, who has been luke warm at best.

Thought they would have a bigger home support than they did, they’re on an incredible run just now. Hope they bring plenty to Tannadice for a good atmosphere... Disappointed with the Utd fans who booed at the end

All to play for on Friday and I’m looking forward to it!
