Well it’s here. The last day of the season has arrived and we are mathematically safe, no matter the result WE ARE SAFE and cannot be relegated. In fact in the words of the song ‘The Town Are Staying Up’

I’m still on a high from Wednesday and keep singing that in my head whenever my mind is not occupied with boring stuff like work 😂

I wanted to write this final thread of the season as I’ve always had a soft spot for Arsenal, and I’ve very much enjoyed watching them over the years. But I never in a million years thought it would cover Arsene Wenger’s last game as Arsenal manager. That really took me by surprise, believe me. I know he’s lost some of the fans over the last couple of years but he has been a fantastic manager for them and I believe he’s also had a positive influence on the whole of English football. I understand our club will be doing something in honour of him at the game and I hope he gets the recognition and respect that he deserves. Well done Arsene, I think you’ll be missed.

Back to us, we are also going to witness another fantastic servant to football end his playing career on Sunday. Dean Whitehead has been popular wherever he’s played and I don’t think we should underestimate the part he, and Mark Hudson, played in embracing the Wagner revolution that has led us to where we are today. Whitehead is staying on the coaching side but I hope he gets a few minutes at least so his part in our fairytale can be recognised 👏🏻👏🏻

Right, after the hard fought and physically draining game on Wednesday night the big question is will our lot have sobered up enough to play? I’m sure we’ve all seen some of the pictures of them celebrating with a ‘couple’ of beers. The one of Pritchard is unforgettable. Will he ever live it down? 😂😂😂

The speculation regarding Wagner’s future is already out there but personally I hope he stays. I know some of you started questioning his selection and tactics but overall he has done a remarkable job with us. He has made mistakes but I’m sure he has learned from them and will be tactically stronger next season. Even as I type this my mind is screaming that he got his tactics right these last couple of games and has kept us up, so surely we should cut him some slack? I think so but I know we all have our own opinions. However I truly believe he really has done a fantastic job for us.

It’s not only Wagner who has been fantastic, the players have been outstanding and given everything for most of the games. I’m not going to dwell on the few poor performances, both individually or as a team, instead I think we should give praise where it’s due and say thank you for trying so hard for our club, especially these last two games when it really mattered 👏🏻👏🏻

I hope we go all out to win our final game so we go into the off season on a high. Arsenal are poor away so I would really go for it and let us finish as high as we possibly can, for pride as well as increased finance.

My prediction 2-1 to us with Depoitre and Mounie the scorers.

One final point, if people do run on the pitch, as they will, don’t stay on forever. Get off when asked and let us all show our appreciation for everyone involved in a fantastic season.
