How far would Mourinho take England in the

World Cup if he was the England manager?

Now you may think this is a weird question, but I was thinking about how Mourinho was able to win the CL with FC Porto and Inter in years in which they were both underdogs in the competition, and I was wondering whether Mourinho could replicate something similar if he was in charge of England.

I don’t think the group would be an issue. Tunisia and Panama would go down easily and I think Mourinho could defeat Belgium with a Mourinho Masterclass. Martinez couldn’t compete tactically with Mourinho in his dreams.

In the KO stages, England would then play the runners up of group H, right? So that would be Poland probably and Mourinho could handle them easily. I believe in the quarters then England would be likely to be facing Brazil, who are a good team but I’m not convinced that they’re resilient enough. Could easily see Mourinho setting up England to nullify Brazil and edge them out for the victory.

Then in the semis if my working is correct, they’d probably play France. Again, another team with good players but no real cohesion. Their weakness is their manager, so Mourinho has a huge edge on them already given that. I don’t believe France would be any tougher than Brazil. I actually think they’d be easier. So that would take Mourinho all the way into the final.

So the final would be either Belgium, Argentina or Spain. Argentina, not problem. Mourinho can nullify Messi easily and that’s Argentina done for. Belgium, well Mourinho’s already beaten them so he can do it again for sure. That just leaves Spain who would be the toughest opponents of those three. Could go either way, but a perfect tactical performance would be enough to beat a Spanish team who still aren’t at their 2010 level.

So what do you dudes think? How far would Mourinho take England? Vote:

4 - Runners up
3 - Third place
2 - Fourth place
1 - Quarter Final exit

Roman had second thoughts on this. Building a double decker stand It would be costly

That's mean of Roman. Not surprised Wahl supports United now.

Yeah I agree IOAG. Jose has a lot of fans. So I wouldn’t begrudge fans like Whal who jumped ship as soon as he knew Roman wasn’t going to build a stand for Jose.

Even Mourinho couldn't win the world cup in this era of English football. You can't buy the best players. The best he could do is maybe persuade some star brazillian youngsters to gain british citizenship and play for England, but then Mourinho isn't so good with young players anyway.

You underestimate Joce, 9ctics. If he managed the World Food Programme he'd do away with global hunger. (Probably by killing all the poor, but hey, means to an end and all that.)

Good article, Wahl. 5from me.

England would just edge it. Only doubt would be if it went down to penalties.

I do think, however, that it would be easier for Mourinho if he managed a team more in his image, such as Iceland.

Switzerland look like they've been managed by Mourinho for years. He may as well get paid for it.

My vote is he moves to Switzerland.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How much did you cry when Mourinho ended your title hopes in 2014?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not as much as he did when he guided Chelsea to a tenth place finish, a couple of seasons later and was then dumped.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And yet he’s still won more trophies than klopp since then
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah he moved to another club with loads of money, had the most expensive squad ever assembled, won the Europa against a load of farmers and finished sixth. The following season after spending another heap on the most expensive squad ever assembled, dumped out of the CL early with a typical Jose style park the bus, against a team who park the bus, great tactics there, then finished way off the league in second.

It's perhaps time he was put down or he takes over Switzerland.
