Seeing this article on the BBC this morning made me cringe a bit:

Plotting our course to the Final while conveniently ignoring that we have a woeful record against Sweden cannot be right. We've only beaten them once in our last eight meetings.
All that matters now is Sweden, forget everything else. Just because we've so far beaten Tunisia, Panama and drew against a Colombia side missing their best player that doesn't mean we have any right to plot our course to the World Cup Final.
Let's not become arrogant England again.

And it's not about not being confident. It's about not being arrogant and looking past Sweden when we haven't beaten them yet. There's a difference.

Yes, let's start issuing wallcharts in several pieces.
You can only unwrap the next piece if you qualify. If you fail to qualify, you never ever unwrap the next piece and you'll never know who you might have played.
Wouldn't wish to be arrogant, would we?

Surely that's an Advent Calendar you're talking about not a wall chart?

In what world do you never open the next window of an advent calendar?!

The last time Sweden beat England competitively was in 1992.
The last time we beat then competitively was 2012.
Who is the bogey side here?

Not quite true - Sweden beat England in autumn 98, qualifying for Euro 2000. Think it might have been Hoddle's last game. Agree with your general point though. 02 and 06 were disappointing draws and we won in 2012. Not sure any of this will affect tomorrow's game. But they'll be tough to beat, no doubt about it.

In what world does a wallchart come with 'pieces' that you 'unwrap'?

Very true, I remember it. 2-1 with us leading?
Of the last competitive game, to show how irrelevant even that is....
We have one starter from that game - Young
Welbeck was a starter, but will be on the bench
Ox would have been in the squad if fit.
That side bears no resemblance to this one in terms of coach, style, formation, players or attitude. Basically anything barring nationality
JOE HART
GLEN JOHNSON
ASHLEY COLE
JOLEON LESCOTT
JOHN TERRY
STEVEN GERRARD
ASHLEY YOUNG
JAMES MILNER
SCOTT PARKER
ANDY CARROLL
DANNY WELBECK

So...
We were right to be confident as it turned out

It's always good to be confident. As I explained before though confidence and arrogance are two very different things and fortunately we went into that game with no arrogance. Southgate played a big part in that

Of course, I certainly was not expecting to beat them but I was definitely confident
