in the past few seasons, without those two, i'd have been worried going into today and hoping for a draw at best.
top marks to smalling and jones today, superb work especially 2nd half where chelsea had nothing to lose and really came at us.
(i do hope evans stays as well, as backup in case of injury)

He had a shocker last season but he seems back to his best this year.
Really? If he has been at his best this season then you should be looking to get rid. He hasn't impressed me at all.

I was impressed with Valencia at right back when he come on. Dealt with Mata and Anelka i think it was pretty well. The guy can shoulder barge. One think that really frustrated me towards the end of the game was when we had possesion with keeping the ball with short passes Carrick decides to hoof the ball forward and we lose possesion, quite frustrating.

You must be blind to not be aware of Evans' poor form. He's our worst player by a mile, and you're giving him credit for under performing against Chelsea? You're worst than some people on here.

No surprise to see you talking absolute cack again. It was only yesterday where you "envisaged nothing but a defeat for us" against Chelsea, only a week after claiming Bolton will annihilate us. Come to think of it, I dont even know why I bother replying to you seeing as you're clearly not a United fan.
As for Evans, he could have done better for the Benfica goal, but apart from that he's barely put a foot wrong all season.
Jones, as impressive as he has been, still has a lot to learn. Torres' shocking miss () came as a result of Jones masquerading forward when we were on the back foot, with 10 minutes to go, with a right-winger playing at right back. I think the kid's brilliant, but as I said, still has a lot to learn.

Torres' first goal was the result of Evans dozing off, Torres' second chance was the result of Jones not picking up his run. Torres spared him the embarassent by emulating Ronny Rozenthal with the miss of the century.
Those hairy moments aside I thought Evans shaded Jones but as a pair they were excellent. Through luck and determination Chelsea were kept at bay. Jones' barnstorming run from defence, that led to United's 3rd, typified the positive manner in which he plays the game.
Both Rio and Vida will be back but I can rest assured that in their absence Smalling and Jones are more than capable understudies.

I give full credit to the belief SAF has in Jonny, and it's paying off, as he gains confidence, which equals strength, as each game goes by, you must admire SAF's belief in his young players, it's paying off
