Allardyce Delighted To Bounce Back With Three Points After Tunisia Horror Show!

If Rooney had played it would have been 17-0 vs Panama, and 8-0. V Columbia.

Rooney is bad but I'm not sure his inclusion would have seen us get tanked that much by both those teams. Probably tight 1-0 loss to Panama and a rather dull 2-0 to Colombia.

It's an interesting thought, how we'd have fared at this WC with Allardyce.
I reckon he'd still have done alright, have to remember we came into this tournament with no expectations at all, and at the time Allardyce represented the type of manager that embraced what many fans saw as England's real style (we need to be a disciplined, counter attacking unit). We'd of entered this WC with more optimism than we did rolling in with Southgate, so he wouldn't have needed to reach the semis, beat Panama 6-1, win a shootout, etc... as Southgate's done.
All in all, with Southgate's draw, he could conceivably have done just as well, but I couldn't imagine the sense of belief and confidence that we're in with a legit shout of winning it would still be there. He'd of likely bought has-been, injury prone players like all the rest of them, we'd have played with a back 4, tactically everything would've been about Kane and not the system itself. No-one would've been fooled that it wasn't the same old England just with a better showing than in previous years.

Let's be honest....we have MASSIVELY overachieved by getting past the last 16....few gave us much chance in all honesty
We've had a bit of luck with the draw and there have been absolutely no issues in the squad non football related.
The likes of Maguire have been far better than expected which has been a bonus

Not sure England have overachieved at all. England have one of, if not the top current striker in world football at their disposal. All the players play in what is probably the most competitive league in world football. The Prem has had more money thrown at it than any comparable league in world football. So England really should be competing. It is no coincidence that most of the players playing for Belgium and France also play in the Prem.
It was only a matter of time that players playing in the Prem would really start to compete in every top level competition.
