I think the difference is that a club’s supporters follow their team through thick and thin.
With the national team people only get interested when they start winning. Yes there is a hardcore of supporters, but there are more what I call “lingerers” those that just sit on the periphery before joining in.

thats not really fair ... This is more than just football, this is bringing something to the whole country and people who dont even like football are enjoying it. If spurs win the league i would dance all night in Tottenham with my spurs mates but England win i dance with the whole country... Its two different things and my loyalty is with Spurs and my Love is for my country
