So, the World Cup is almost over, save for the medal rounds, so I thought I'd revisit my world cup player watch list and see how my picks did - my original comments first, updates after:
Rui Patricio (Portugal) - Won the last Euros with his side and played brilliantly in the knockout rounds. Plays for Sporting so probably wouldn't cost the earth compared to keepers in some other leagues. Hugely experienced on all fronts. - Had some good moments but slightly disappointing overall. Could have done better with his positioning for Cavani's goal when Portugal crashed out. A pretty decent get for Wolves.
Yerry Mina (Colombia) - 23 years old but already looking at home in the national setup as a centre back with 11 games and 3 goals. A unit at 6'5" and has had a handful of games for Barcelona since the start of the year. - I was happy with this one. Mina had an excellent competition on all fronts and would have starred further had Colombia stayed in. Big future.
Grzegorz Krychowiak (Poland) - A trusted player for a workmanlike national side and a mainstay of their encouraging Euro 2016 run. Never really shone at West Brom but a tough, solid defensive midfielder by trade who can also play as a centre half. PSG probably don't need him and may let him go cheap. - Disappointing run by Poland but Krychowiak got a goal and aside from a mistake in the same game had a reasonable tournament. He'll be on the move soon.
Aleksandr Golovin (Russia) - Set to be the home nation's poster boy for this World Cup. 21 years old, central midfielder who models himself after "Italian midfielders and N'Golo Kante". - Starred in Russia's opening game with a goal and two assists. Russia exceeded expectations and he was part of it. Definitely has bright times ahead.
Fernando Muslera (Uruguay) - Taller than Ospina at 6'3" and younger than Cech at 31. Vastly experienced internationally with a plucky Uruguay team and has won the Super Lïg this season with Galatasaray. - Oh dear...
Karius - "Nobody will ever make a bigger mistake than me."
De Gea - "Hold my beer..."
Muslera - Drops De Gea's beer.
He didn't have a lot to do in the tournament, like De Gea or Pickford, so the mistake just looked bigger than it was. I doubt we'll see him in four years.
Diego Reyes (Mexico) - Young centre half with over 50 international caps and a league winner's medal from Portugal this season. Tall, skilful, has captained the national side on occasion and can also play in midfield. - Honestly I didn't see a lot of this lad, but Mexico made their obligatory visit to the knockout rounds before cashing out.
Joshua Kimmich (Germany) - Young and talented full back who played in the last Euros and can also deputise in midfield. Boundless energy and drive, but would probably cost a few quid from Bayern. - Nobody in the German team excelled, and Kimmich was no exception. He's young enough to have another World Cup in him, maybe two, but he will see this one as a waste.
So those were my watchlist players. Did you have any? Do you still? How did they pan out?

Felt bad for Muslera. Was actually having a solid tournament before he did a Karius.
I had an eye on Iran's Ali Reza Jahanbakhsh as he was a top scorer in Holland last season. He played OK and Iran had a decent WC but they weren't a team that was going to be particularly offensive.

Been impressed by Pavard. Came out of nowhere and managed to bench Sidibe.
Only 22 as well so has lots of room to improve.
