I have just noticed a bit of cockiness going on with some fans and Forest media lately. Even the evening post is getting in on the act. They state “who else will be challenging at the top of the table this season?".
We have made some good signings and certainly should be doing a lot better than last season. But we are nowhere near nailed on for promotion. We have a good squad but the players will take time to gel, some probably won’t work out also.
There are a lot of good teams in this league also. Plenty of teams who could expect to be challenging. There is always a couple of surprise teams too. So there is no chance that it won’t be a hard faught battle for any team that goes up.
I saw a bit of arrogance with both Liverpool in the Champs league final and England v Croatia. Pundits predicting Liverpool/England wins across the board and seemingly forgetting the other teams are actually better. Don’t wanna make the same mistake at Forest. We are nowhere near the best team in this league at the moment and we need to remember that. Let’s just back them and be happy with good progress and then we might get where we all want to be. The alternative is the moaning and booing if we are not top by September!! Sadly I am sure that will happen!
Let’s not get cocky

I’m hopeful that the fans will give Karanka a bit of patience as he fits all these new pieces together. Been a underwhelming few years to be a Red so a bit of realism exists amongst the sensible majority of fans. Ignore the media, they just want to try and whip up a frenzy to collect some sound bites from the fans.

Tbf I am only expecting a top half finish this season and maybe a good go at promotion for 19/20.
Media are just hyping it up because of the players brought in along with the season card sales.
The fans are going to be over expectant and get on the teams back its always the way.
In some ways the fans have every right to expect more though. Aitor has brought in 15 or so players that he believes can play the way that he wants to and so up goes the expectation.
For me a few of those players are past their prime but have have been successful in the past and only time will tell if the rest of the squad respects what the older heads are showing them and are galvanised into a cohesive unit that will fight for each other.

Karanka is going to have his work cut out as there will be more than a few who don’t make that match day squad. Always hard to keep everyone happy and motivated. If he can shift a lot more of the fringe players away this summmer, that would help no end. That is probably his bigger challenge now.

Agreed. They got to go. Players like Clough and Vellios shouldn't be playing in the u23s. They need to move on

You would hope they would all be ambitious to be playing first team somewhere. Not always the car, though, and there have been plenty of examples of players sitting on contracts. Can’t blame them entirely as it is club’s fault for offering up such lucrative deals for players then not backing the manager who signed them.

Clough should go out on loan again for a while and then see how the land lies at Forest. Things can change quickly and he does have talent, just lost his way. Still has time on his side, though.
Vellios has had a few chances now and hadn’t grabbed them. He is the other end of the age scale and will be on decent money. Should be chomping at the bit for a move if he has any international aspirations with Greece and Euro 2020.

Good to hear Karanka lambasting the team for not setting off on the right foot in the warm up for the Oldham game. Get the sense he isn’t going to take any prisoners now he has been given the backing of the board this summer. I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him. Sounds ideal and should hopefully spur the squad on against Scunny on Weds night.

Scunny up next. Can’t recall a victory for the Reds up there before? A record that needs changing this evening.
