A couple of weeks ago I said that pre-season is the best time of year for a football fan, because it creates a sense of hope and optimism, a feeling that last years troubles will be washed away and those new signings you've made will make a real difference, that everything will come together and you'll have a terrific season.
It's take 3 games in the Betfred Cup to wash those hopes and dreams away for us Arabs.
Our start to the season has been, quite frankly, abysmal. We've drawn with Arbroath at home (lost on penalties), we've lost 1-0 to Ross County in Dingwall and we've drawn with Alloa at home (lost on penalties). We're already knocked out of a competition by mid-July.
Beyond that though, is the fact that performances have been reportedly very poor (worth noting that I've not been at any of the games for a variety of reasons). This worries me more than anything else. We've revamped the entire squad and we're playing worse than previously.
Now I'm willing to accept that players need time to gel etc, but so do the Ross County players. So do the Arbroath and Alloa players. There is no excuse for not beating the two lower league teams at home. None at all.
I'm already worried about this season. I'm already wondering why Laszlo is still in a job. And he won't last. He's came out and said that he is going to treat this cup as pre-season, and ridiculously called for allowance of 5 substitutions in the cup before only making a single change in the first game. If he doesn't get a good start to the league campaign then he'll be gone by September.
We've signed another couple of players in the last week by the way. Adam Barton who was previously at Partick and former Falkirk centre half Paul Watson (with possibly the worst 'signing twitter video' I've ever seen). Let's hope both of them improve things.

I wonder how much Tony Stokes is on now that he's moved to Iran

Watched the Dundee game yesterday-they were abysmal. Dunfermline played well and probably should have had one or two more goals in the first half. McCann didn’t look very interested at the sidelines I thought?!

Out of 15 home games last season, Bidvest Wits managed to get 37,274 fans through the gates. That's not per game; that's the total.
Average home attendance of 2,485.
How long before Murray is back in Scotland, realising that the "six grand per week" was in Monopoly money?

It was difficult to see if Dunfermline were any good or not as they did not have to do anything. Imagine that Dundee team against a decent team. Could have been 0-20

Laszlo has evidently read my article this morning and is apparently about to sign Yannick Loemba, a Congolese attacking midfielder/winger who has recently been playing in Turkey's second tier. Not that he played very often in that league. Previously he was in Belgium kicking a ba aboot.

Dundee were really, really poor. Long season ahead for you if that’s how you play in most games.

It's how we play in most home games. Different team away from home for some reason.

I have a theory that Dundonian football supporters moan more than any other football supporters in the entire world. Possibly the universe but further research is required.

It's like life in Tayside is too good, so they go to the football every other weekend just to make themselves miserable. It's astonishing how many fans just moan through the entire game. Why go if you hate it so much?
