Wolves move on to their penultimate pre-season friendly game before getting down to the business of life in the Premier league with a visit to Pride Park to take on Derby County.
The last time the two teams met was at Molineux on11th April when Wolves ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a goal from Diogo Jota and ‘that’ goal from midfield maestro Ruben Neves which many regard as being the most spectacular goal ever scored in the Championship.
Since then Wolves have done a considerable amount of transfer activity. Giving permanent contracts to loanees Jota, Boly, Vinagre and Bonatini was the first order of business. This was followed by the permanent signing of Portuguese international keeper Rui Patricio and a season long loan for Mexican international striker Raúl Jiménez from Benfica. Then came the signing of Portuguese international midfielder Joao Moutinho, followed a day later by the season long loan deal for Spanish defender Jonny Castro.
Derby County ended last season in 6th position in the league but failed to win promotion through the playoffs. Since then they have taken the gamble to employ Frank Lampard as Manager, a bold move for a club with very definite intentions of promotion.
Derby have added to their ranks with 19-year-old midfielder Mason Mount on loan from Chelsea, Harry Wilson on loan from Liverpool and Dutch winger Florian Jozefzoon signed from Brentford. All three made their debuts at Pride Park last Saturday when the Rams ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Southampton in their first home pre-season friendly.
Although it’s a well-known fact that pre-season matches are not about results, this is a game that neither side will want to lose. Fasten your seat belts folks, I think this one will be a cracker!

Derby v Wolves Match Preview [LIVE]

Actually I posted the match preview thread on the Ram's board out of respect for their fans who I thought were open minded, proper football people who were always good for a bit of banter.
Sadly it seems to have turned into a bit of a slanging match which I find far more disappointing than yesterday's result. Hey ho, we move on to Villareal next week and then on to the main event.

Actually think Derby over achieved this time around and were quite unfortunate rather than bottling it this time.

Bit of a surprise that Derby beat Leeds to get to the play off final, but they were second best at Wembley. Bottom line is that Derby did ok but weren’t quite good enough, as is usually the case. With Lampard on the way, and some good loan players moving on, I suspect it won’t be any better next season
