Zlatan leaves a cliffhanger suggesting the boss is about to surprise us all with a big change.
Despite the fact we're already carrying six senior centrebacks, we're in for Maguire, a ball-carrying centreback who'd complement Bailly/Smalling and Lindelof.
We don't appear to be too interested in too many fullback targets.
Jose has already toyed with three at the back, including using it in big games last season...
Are we about to see a shift to a 3-5-2 as our default approach?
Three at the back

All these lineups with Lindelof.... Baffling... He was rubbish for most of last year.... Rarely wins in the air
And this good on the ball thing.... Has he really shown this at all? Yes he doesn't lump it forward... But the most he does is a crisp hard pass out to Valencia... He doesn't carry the ball forward etc
He's comfortably our worst cb defensively

Lindelof improved as the season went on, in fairness. I think he’ll be a lot better this season if he gets games.

I just don't see it... He didn't improve in the air, just looked like he wasn't as terrified every time the ball went in his direction
Hope you're right tho

He did improve in the air, by virtue of playing with less fear. Wasn’t getting bullied all the time either. Was nothing special but was pretty solid towards the end of the season. As much as I don’t like Mourinho, he’s usually pretty good with cb’s, so expect further improvement.

I’d agree jose is usually good at judging defenders which is why I’m a little worried about the Maguire rumours. Did well at the WC but not sure if he’s good enough if we want to be competing for major honours?

Nah I don’t really rate Maguire. Massively overrated die to the world cup. Looks a liability when playing in the prem. I’m sure he’d improve playing for Mourinho, especially from a positional sense, and he has some good attributes for a defender, but I don’t think he’s worth spending that sort of money on when that fee could command far bettet defenders that would potentially take us up a level at the back. I don’t see Maguire doing that.

Agree with Darren. Definately not the step up required.
Or the position really, either.

Cb isn’t even an area we need to massively upgrade anyway. Far more pressing areas than cb.

Completely speculative, granted, but I can see Lindelof becoming a very good and important player for us.
He has the natural attributes to become, in time, an excellent centreback.

If he grows a set of balls maybe... I still think he's weak in the air.
I just don't see it.... He's my new Ashley Grimes , can't warm to him at all
Most of you are too young for the Ashley Grimes thing .... He was a squad player when i was a kid.... You know the age where you rate everyone who plays for United and everyone's great... I still hated him
