3 CBs without 3 at the back

Reflecting on last season and pre-season it looks like Puel is set on playing 2 CBs with attacking full backs, most likely in a 4-2-3-1.

With at least one new CB coming in, I wondered if there was possibly a scenario where we still play 3 CBs (obviously this is based on one of those defenders hitting the PL running)

Something like:

————————— Schmeichel—————————-

Pereira ———- Evans——— Soyuncu———Chilwell

———————- Maguire
———————————-— Ndidi

Albrighton/Ghezzal —-Maddison——————-Gray

——————————Vardy

- protection and experience around him for a new young centre back

- allowance for Maguire’s walkabouts without compromising CBs positions

- freedom for Ndidi to play slightly higher forward, allowing us to win the ball higher up (remember, nobody in the PL won the ball back more than Ndidi)

Few people have covered it I think - but as a Primary teacher I unfortunately have the Trolls cover in my head

Sweet mother of mercy. I haven't heard it but from the mere title you have my sympathy.

I can’t say I recall this version. The O’Jays one is familiar but one of their other hits “Back Stabbers” has always stuck in the mind, probably because they played it at a works do one year 🤔

dublin - 1 second of that was enough to know that I'm not letting it enter my consciousness.

Slightly off the subject but back to Maguire - does anyone else find this bizarre sky sports/talksport rumour that Maguire wants to go to Man Utd before 5pm today a little bizarre?

It is not being reported really by any other news source and having had Talksport on in the background - I’ve heard at least 4 times (from different pundits) - ‘why are they keeping him? He will just go in January’ (a riposte that has no logic in my head).

It reeks of a big sports company trying to get ahead of the game with regard to ‘being in the know’ ahead of what they thought was a likely transfer and now feeling like idiots.

A little bit, one may say, like the constant drivel during our title winning season of ‘it won’t last, it won’t last...Leicester will fall away...’

Some Sun sports reporter was on the radio this morning saying the Maguire deal was a done deal and that we basically shouldn't expect anything other than Harry trotting off to a proper club. He also said we'd signed John O'Shea as CB cover for when Harry goes, so that pretty much sums up what he knows.

I've seen neither quotes nor actions from Maguire that he's pushing for a move. I highly doubt he would reject a move, but that's different.

As usual, this is a case of pundits guessing and showing no understanding that clubs may have ambitions to be more than they currently are.

The good thing about the current ludicrous transfer market is that the selling clubs have more power.

Keep Maguire, he has a rubbish first half of the season and we still sell him for £70m because he was ‘unhappy’ so out of form.

Keep him for the season and he does really well. It’s now £75m because he’s proven.

The days where players just forced a move because the selling club didn’t dare lose out on the cash has gone. When you sign a 5 year deal, you basically accept that a stupid offer has to come in AND the club want to sell you. Maguire would have to wait 2 more years before he has any power in the matter.

All in all, he seems like a pretty likeable and honest guy. I think he’d give us another season giving his all if we keep him. Then he can go to a proper club like Man City or Liverpool anyway 😉

I think Man Utd could be a good place for him actually, but he should wait until they give Mourinho the chop. I don't know why anyone would want to play under him right now because he keeps on throwing his players under the bus. And probably the same bus that he's parked in front of his team's goal.

So Sky and Talksport ( Skys puppets ) were on the ball again
Where do they get these learned experts from.

Loved Claude winding the press up
' I can confirm that Harry is going to Manchester …….. for a few hours tomorrow '

Didn't realise he had such a semse of humour
