Yes, yes, yes, I know, we lost.
Again.
Last week we were beaten at Stoke and the sayers of doom were out in force predicting the end of times but, last week, there were mitigating circumstances in the fact that we had about 800 shots at goal to Stoke's 1. Yes, we should have converted enough of them to finish the game off but we didn't, it happens, we move on.
So now we've lost again, and 4-0 at that. But are there mitigating circumstances again? Let's have a look, shall we?
1st up we got off to a bad start giving away a goal after 7 mins but what a goal, then we nearly equalized. Having Adam sent off didn't help but we were still hanging in there with a chance of snatching an equalizer until Skrtel followed Adam to the dressing room.
So, in conclusion, we got off to a bad start, got hit by a contender for goal of the month, had a man sent off, hung on at 0-1 with 10 men and finally, when down to 9 men conceded 3 goals in the last 1/4 hour.
As for the sendings off themselves, well, there's no use whinging about them but I'll just point out that we were given 5 yellow cards for 9 fouls whereas Spurs were given 1 for 10.
Hold off on the meltdown.

------------------------
meaning?
1 yellow for Suarez petulantly having a go at the officials
1 yellow for Skrtel hauling back Bale
1 yellow for Adam hauling back Parker
1 yellow for Adam doing a "Roy Keane" on Parkers leg
1 yellow for Skrtel hacking Bale from behind
All merited in my opinon. In fact i would probably have given a straight red for the Adam tackle. I dont think he was intentionally trying to hurt Parker, but that was very dangerous, much like Ashley Coles on Chicharito last night.
It is not the end of the world, agreed, and you were doggedly holding on until the second sending off, but in reality Spurs had blitzed you from the start, the sendings off disguise the fact that even with 11 players you were struggling against them.

I don't want to sound like a doom and gloom merchant but you've missed a few very important "mitigating circumstances" -
We didn't turn up at all yesterday (even with 11 men on the park). I would have expected a much, much better reaction to the Stoke defeat.
Our current midfield (Lucas and Adam) is shambolic. If we really think that this is a pairing that's going to bring back Champions League football then other fans are 100% correct in calling us 'deluded'.
This squad if complete (according to Comolli) would only serve to bring us more embarrassment if we were involved in Europe.

Mouseburger,
I didn't include Suarez' card in my 5 as it wasn't for a foul and I merely wonder if our fouls were that much nastier than Spurs', given the card:foul ratio.

Taras,
fair enough - but i still think the fouls committed by Liverpool players were cards - i honestly dont remember Tottenham committing fouls to a similar degree - they didnt need to as they were in complete control of the game, it was Liverpool who were trying to stamp their authority to get a foothold in the game, which is why they picked up the cards.
The ref didnt strike me as one who was afraid to give the home team cards had they merited it.

Don't think you understand the meaning of "mitigating circumstances".
