Brewers Prediction (2)- Gillingham

Poor result to start off the season with. I thought that we were awful in the first half but what a transformation in the second. We should have got something out of the game in the end but poor finishing let us down.

Anyway on to our first away fixture of the new campaign. This won't be easy but I think that we could get our first point of 2018/19.
I am going for a 1.1. draw.

Thanks for taking this on, Foxyfreddy. Sorry to read about the way you're feeling Otep, I hope you're ok and will still be able to enjoy this season and maybe join in with the predictor sometimes. You've done a great job running this for us all, thank you.

I'm still trying to feel hopeful, so:-

Gillingham 0 - 1 Brewers

I'd like to be optimistic and predict a win, but at best think a draw is more realistic:
Gillingham 2 Albion 2
Thank you foxyfreddy for agreeing to run the Prediction League and thank you to Otep for running it in the past. Hope all goes well for you too Otep

So much to cover this week.
Firstly, though, very best wishes to Otep. May your sabbatical from the Brewers be sweet but hopefully short and enticed back by results and performances on the pitch.
Common view that it was a game of two halves last week. I said I would be positive so let’s say that Kyle McFadzean looks much more comfortable in the back four and that the defence looked better balanced and more secure after the interval. Delighted that Liam Boyce wasn’t head hunted in the window.
Good things to come, but I am afraid that my prediction for today has to be a 3-1 defeat. Only once in five previous visits have the Brewers returned with a result, though that was the previous visit in December 2015, when injury time goals for Akins and O’Connor added to an earlier strike from McCrory. Prior to that it was 4-1 in October 2012 with Zander Diamond on the scoresheet. First goal to the Gills was scored by Tom Flanagan. 3-1 in September 2011 after a Billy Kee equaliser. Finished with nine men after red cards for Aaron Webster and Ryan Austin. 1-0 in September 2010 and 1-0 in the FA Cup in November 2009, a game remembered by an injury to Ryan Austin that ended a strong run of performances as a right back in the first season in the league.
Lots of former Brewers spotted on the box as the new league season got underway. (I won’t repeat sightings every week, just new ones!). Firstly, Ryan Delaney, who got on to the pitch at the Pirelli to bolster Rochdale’s defence. Saturday teatime saw Mark Duffy as a sub for Sheffield United versus Swansea. Then on Sunday it was Gary Rowett in the dugout for Stoke at Leeds.
The first edition of the new EFL show on Quest picked out Darren Moore managing West Brom, Darragh Lenihan at the back for Blackburn, Matty Palmer trudging back to the half way after a succession of goals conceded by Rotherham, Jacques Maghoma on the scoresheet for Birmingham and John McLaughlin beaten by an early penalty on his debut for Sunderland.
Monday night football needed a keen eye but there was a fleeting glimpse of Jackson Irvine and Kevin Stewart on the bench for Hull and sports scientist Jack Sharkey on the Villa pitch-side staff. League One recorded highlights picked out James Collins hitting the bar for Luton and Matty Lund joining in the celebrations of Scunthorpe’s late winner.
Add in the two mentioned last week and the five from the Mickleover and Solihull friendlies and I’m up to 20 already. I know that there are a lot of others out there but if I make my criteria a brief glimpse it will keep me amused for longer than simply scouring the week’s team sheets! Feel free to chip in with tips on where I should be looking.
Well done for picking up the predictor, Freddy. It’s a marathon, not a sprint!

Glaring omission from my Brewers on the box spotting - Mason Bennett's peach of a cross for the last gasp winner for Derby at Reading!
