Good afternoon.
Scotland's most worthless competition, the Irn Bru Challenge Cup, was back in action last night and again the farce continues.
In this round the colt teams were in action and needless to say most of them have been pumped out. Only four remain in the competition, and two of those beat another colt team to progress. Congratulations to Hamilton and Motherwell for not getting humiliated by Clyde and East Stirling, while Dundee and St Mirren beat other colt teams.
It wasn't the same for the other teams though. St Johnstone colts played against a United reserve side made up predominantly of kids and one or two fringe players, and United progressed after a last minute Paul McMullan winner to win by the odd goal in five. Celtic were cuffed 4-0 by Annan while Rangers were defeated 2-1 by Falkirk. I can't remember who Aberdeen got pumped out by but they're out.
This is all after the league agreed to increase the amount of over age players to help the colt teams out.
The farce continues now though, as the 'foreign' clubs enter in the next round. Half the teams now in the competition aren't Scottish, and after the draw Dunfermline are the lucky team to travel to England to play against Boreham Wood, the National League third placed team from last season (or something, I'm barely interested).
United face Alloa at Tannadice. I don't know the rest of the fixtures because I really don't care.
I hope you'll all join me in wishing the Scottish teams well and hopefully this farce of a cup doesn't impact anyone's promotion/relegation battles. We all know what it's about now and it's certainly not about giving lower league teams the opportunity to win a cup competition, which is what it should be about.

Mon the local foreigners, Coleraine & The Hatchetmen

You make me feel guilty about not wanting your teams involved.
It's nothing personal, it's just a stitch up to get two teams down south.

Totally understand
Some smashing talent coming through in the Irish league particularly at Coleraine and a few would fit comfortably in the SPFL.Surprised only Hearts have shown any interest.

I can't say I follow the league there (I only really watch Scottish football these days to be honest - no other domestic football particularly interests me) but I've always been surprised we don't try to pick up some talent from that league - and they can use it as a stepping stone to England perhaps.
Not good for your league obviously if we're taking your better young players but sadly that's the way of the game these days.

Like the bit in Football Factory where Bill makes Zeb hold his hand out and his hand shakes, then Bill says "you're just a kid, aren't you?"
So then later on, Zeb goes and asks a wee kid to hold his hand out in the same way, and copies what Bill says.

It's had a number of names down the years.
The most important thing to remember is that the man of the match in each game gets a large glass bottle of Irn Bru as his prize, which in no way makes it a laughing stock.

If it’s that new stuff, they can ram it. Yuk.
