Alonso

Not seen much about his performance yesterday but got to say what a threat he is. I know he's a defender and has some defensive frailties but as an attacking threat he's great. 2 games, 2 assists and a goal. And he could have had at least another one. His technique is world class, great crosser, great free kicks, brilliant striker of the ball, good in the air, great engine and constantly available for the overlapping runs. Looks like sarri is willing to lose a bit defensively to accommodate him in the team. Personally I'd like to see kante moved to the left hand side of the pitch to give more cover for him and hazard

sideshow is right both full backs were outnumbered yesterday because Jorginho isnt as dynamic as Kante in defensive situations so there was not enough cover in front of the back four. I would go so far as to say we may as well have Fabregas in there instead, hes no slower but has a way better passing range. Swap Jorginho and Kante and we will have optimal cover plus Jorginho would appear to be a bigger goal threat than Kante.

Stongly agree with this. That simple tweak would make us a far more effective team. Horses for courses and utilise peoples strengths while minimising their weaknesses. Logical really.

Totally disagree, the point of Kante playing higher up the pitch in a high press is to utilise his break up play in more dangerous areas and recycle from there, Jorginho is to provide the rhythm from deep.

Just think it will take a bit of time to settle. I think Kovacic will provide better tactical discipline than Barkley and will make us more solid.

Kante moving back as the shield would be giving up on Sarri ball before we get started.

I’d like to christian come in for Luis through.

Agree. Sarri likes to defend from the front, which means that front three and two CM to press high up the pitch, we didn't do this in the last 15 minutes of the first half.

Alonso is such a threat going forward but suspect in the defense, maybe the idea of switching Kante on the LCM is probably not a bad idea.

Still a lot of work to do, fitness wise we're there yet, I suspect this will be rectified in the coming weeks.

No need to switch Kante and Kovacic. Kovacic showed yesterday even in his short appearance that he’s able to break up play and defend when needed. He’s a pretty complete midfielder, I’m expecting him to get a decent number of goals as well in this role.

I take your point about the benefits of Kante's break up play being useful in more dangerous areas, especially with the current trend of most teams trying to play out from the back, but the trade off for that is I don't believe Kante's finishing (currently but maybe with practise it will improve) is a clinical as some of the other players playing behind him. It could be argued that one of those other players would have done better with that header yesterday. Jorginho's ability to see a pass before others do and thread it through the eye of a needle, could be lethal in a more advanced role.

I also like the look of Kovacic, who breaks up play well also.

Agree about Luiz, I thought he was very sloppy and casual yesterday and was also not picking opponents up when he should have.

Christian will get his chance, Luis will get suspended at at some stage. He’s just too loose not to pick up yellows and reds.

Not sure who you’re talking about here, but unless it’s John Terry then yes, Fabregas IS slower.
