Chilwell and Gray called up for England

Leicester Youngsters Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray have been called up for the first team Squad to face Switzerland at the Kingpower Stadium on Tuesday.

Well done lads, hope you get some game time.

Hey Joby - this may get missed also but I’ll give it a go.

I like what Southgate is doing as per your post. He’s basically bringing youth through and picking players on merit. Shaw performs in the first team again, and he’s back in the fold.

This can only be good for Leicester as well, getting recognition and coverage of our players, and helping those youngsters believe they can achieve what they want at our club.

But if Chilwell and Gray now the standard of the England team, we may as well give up now.

Spain was a nice reminder of where this England team is. My biggest concern is that I don’t see any decent midfielders coming through and we are sorely lacking any sort of creativity.

Bit like Leicester really.

^^^^^ Yes Mersey, I couldn’t disagree with any of that.

In the debate around Puel this is one area that he could be great for our club. Young, promising players will come if they can see a route through to the first team - and even England recognition. Of course, for Puel, performances and results will be paramount, but it’s this kind of thing that makes you want to keep Puel - on that big caveat around performances.

But Gray and Chilwell England players? At worst it should add a few millions to their value.

In a different way, Maddison really does look the real deal. I’d have him in that squad over either of those two.

Credit to Puel for bringing the youth players through and for getting Gray and Chilwell looking like competent premier league footballers.if he can make them look like excellent ones, then both he and they deserve all the credit they will get.

TB

I'll respond to the sensible thread re this subject.

I watched the U21s on Bt last week.
I thought Gray was motm, some good runs and a cracking shot that hit the bar. Even Chris Sutton said he played well, and that's saying something !

Chillwell also played well. I think he's in because of Luke Shaws injury. So we only had one left back , Danny Rose

All good news for Leicester

Don't worry about it, I just Filter any morons anyway and can only see this thread.

Hard to disagree anything both Mersey and Joby have said but we should just really celebrate having more Players in the England squad, a sign of our unbelievable progress in recent years.

It might be a bit too early but a bit surprising that Maddison didn't get a look in, as Stringer said he'd have him ahead of at least Gray, with Alli dropping out now and there already being a drought in English midfield playmakers this could have been a great time to give him a chance.

Ps - I'd give MA a shout as well.

My son got me a ticket to go with him tonight unfortunately i am in the sandpit. I took him 10 years ago and introduced him to Gordon and Banks and we met Wortho complete with Cowboy hat. So this was his thank you. For you that decry this game how often do you get to see England at our wonderful stadium? and for the first time there is a chance of three thats right three of our own on the pitch at the same time, now thats an Alisdair ok moment imo

" For you that decry this game"

Nobodies knocking the game, just the ticket pricing.

For example when England played at Man City's ground the tickets were £15 - £25 or so yet at Leicester £55

Nearly 4000 unsold tickets for tonight due to FA greed.

Some interesting bits in the news about Leicester players recently.

Chilwell hired a personal trainer to work on his running and sprints over the Summer to prepare for his role at left 'wing back ', certainly showed up so far with him carrying out the most sprints so far for Leicester and the fastest sprint as well.

Iborra is talking to Clubs back in Spain but wasn't allowed to leave over the Summer, obviously not high in Puel's plans.

Mark Allbrighton isn't happy at only playing the odd game and isn't shy at letting it be known, will he nail down a place or drop down the order leading to him leaving soon?

Ex Leicester City player N'Golo Kante is a Qualified Accountant after training at the age of 20 when he wasn't sure he'd make it as a Footballer.

Interesting that, as soon as someone gets in the England squad, the speculation starts as to what big club is inevitably going to come in and steal them.

Apparently Tottenham are "monitoring" Ben Chilwell. He's the same player he was a few days ago, but is now a more marketable asset.

He might well go somewhere, but you'd think he might have the ambition to go to a club that wins trophies.
