It’s not every day I am firmly in Jose's corner but I think of the back of a world cup win, Pogba is simply taking advantage of Mourinho's struggles to make excuses for his inconsistent performances in a united shirt. For all his talent & athleticism he requires so much time on the ball & is essentially a luxury player.
A lot of talented players will blame the system or manager for their poor performances. For me its what splits the great players from the ordinary ones. Some arsenal fans may not consider Cesc to be a legend but his adaptability & ability to perform when Wenger stopped signing good players is what makes him a great player.
There is pure luxury like Di Maria, Kagawa, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Martial etc, then you have so called very good players that for some reason never convinced you and looked like luxury players.
Here is my list, controversial but that’s how I see these current players
1. Coutinho
2. Kroos
3. Dele Alli

OP needs to define "luxury player" to really have this debate.

He is not going to put that amount of effort in to an article. He is a luxury poster.

For me, a luxury player is one who is generally more technically gifted than their peers but generally more of an individual player. Someone who won't graft for the team and can't necessarily be relied upon for consistency but is capable of pulling out a moment of magic or winning a game with an exceptional performance almost single handed. To me, they will tend not to contribute as much physically and the team game plan will need to be able to manage without them. Not all teams are able to support this type of player, they are a luxury.

Decent article Gunner but I think it's unfair to put Kroos in that category (as someone else already mentioned).
Definitely takes control of games unlike any of those other mentioned players.

I take it you agree about Coutinho. No offence great player, great goals, but doest have that Stevie G or Cesc Fabregas about him. Maybe Barca is the kind of environment & system that will make him an integral player like Iniesta

I agree with this. The sort of player that doesn’t pull his weight in training, or has an attitude problem but the manager turns a blind eye to because he’s head and shoulders better than his team mates and will pull out a piece of magic on Saturday.
Usually heard talked about when a mid table/relegation threatened team sign a player out of their league, Juninho at Boro or Dugarry at Birmingham for example.

A luxury player is a player a which is not really needed because there are enough players already for that position. Nothing to do with the player's attitude.

Hmmm, it's actually a combination off both

I see luxury player as ones who have no affect on big games.
Kroos certainly doesn't fall into that category.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He sets the tempo in games effortlessly, you could say he is in Kroos control.

"Kroos control"!
Don't quit your day job, assuming that you have one!
btw: Once the political mess at home is fixed, then you can focus on Trump!

I am pretty sure I have never heard the term used in that context. Ever.
