The boards backing..

Does anybody think the board should have publicly backed Jose by now? Or do they not see a problem with how things are going?

The future is so uncertain and nobody knows what direction we want to go in. I just can't understand why they wouldn't back Jose in the summer if they see him as the man for the future? If he's not backed in January it really does show a lack of trust in him being the man for the job.

It's simple, we either keep Jose, back him and sell any players that don't buy into his vision or we sack him. Not rocket science ed.

They need to give him another 150 million. so he can buy 2 more 30 year olds.

If they'd have bought Alderweireld we'd probably be all set for top 4 again. True the football would still be hideous but the CL money would be almost a sure thing.

So he kind of has a point as much as I want him gone.

You honestly think 1 defender is going to make a difference?

If they are backing him, the best way to do it is by staying quiet.

There's a reason it's termed the "dreaded" vote of confidence.

Always found this logic a bit weird. As if the vote of confidence is some sort of pre cursor to the sacking of a manager. If you get the vote of confidence in football it means you're not doing very well in the first. Not many managers are capable of turning their own poor runs of form around to satisfy the multitude of interested parties (fans, board, shareholders). So it stands to reason that a vote of confidence usually follows a sacking, not that it's some kind of indicator that the board is about to sack the manager

Now? Not so much.

On Deadline day it would have. It would have cheered Jose up no end and made us hard to beat like last year. Like I said the football would still be dull but we'd be a shoe in for top 4 again

If our Manager requires to be cheerful in order to execute his role with any sort of competence we should have got rid a long time ago.

As for being hard to beat. You don't require experienced international footballers in order to achieve that. There are teams in League 2 that are hard to beat.

It's the outdated tactics and personnel selection why we're so poor. Pep said it best "You don't win the ball 80 yards from goal, you win it 30 yards from goal". Jose-Ball cedes territory and time on the ball to the opposition. When you allow even average teams to move up the pitch, giving them time and space aside from your own box they'll get chances based on law of averages.

I think they already backed him recently didn't they? Maybe a month or 2 ago?

Let's be honest, it means very little these days and it certainly wouldn't be wise to make a habit of it given the unpredictability of football and our recent relationship with managers.

Jose won't last though. It's just a question of when now imo.

Benched,

Exactly. Ceding possession gives the the opposition time to settle on the ball and, even if they don’t make chances, automatically kills any momentum we might have. In fact, it stops us building any and sucks the intensity out of the side.

Even Simeone’s team go and aggressively press the ball once they’ve gotten their shape again. We’re just passive.

They showed their confidence in him in summer by saying he didn’t even need any more players. They backed him then. To say they back him now would be a clear indication that they don’t back him.

Really?

I think it makes perfect sense.

If something is incorrectly purported and you know it to be total nonsense, you don't feel obliged to comment as you're content knowing the real truth.

If you were a club of Man Utd's size and you decided to vomment on every media accusation, you'd be forever playing in to their hands. Silence is golden.

I think Jose unfortunately is in the hot seat for a while longer yet, regardless of performance or results. We seem to either sit on our hands or dismiss with little to no care for the current manager (Moyes finding out from his wife was it? And LVG straight after the cup win)

Normally agree with you here Stretford but not on this one.

Toby wouldn't have made a jot of difference despite the gact hes a quality defender and better than any CB we have.

As others have already mentioned, we play so negatively and the tactics do not get the best out of our players. It makes signings a moot point, as potentially we have a very good attack, that has far more quality than what Jose has been able to get it to produce.

Under Pep, with the same set of players, we would be title challengers.

The manager is the big chasm.

Jose would be better off at an unfancied team, one with a strong structure and support, a sleeping giant with littlw expectation. That way he can impose a siege mentality much easier on a group of players who are much more used to being an under dog.

Really thought Jose would adapt when we got him, and play to the tradtions of the club. A bit Sir Alex lite, but how very naive I was. He's too stubborn and set in his ways.
