Last season comparison

This time last season in the league, after 9 games, we had 13 points and had conceded 16 goals. Jump forward a year and we have 10 points more and have conceded just 3 goals in the league.

We’re not playing well, but we weren’t this time a year ago either. Bar a couple of games we were pretty average and had got thumped off spurs and city away. Klopp has always got a bit of stick for not being a winner, he plays great football but can’t find that ability to win, so this season he seems to have added a pragmatic nature to us, that even when we are playing very poorly we have enough about us to grind out a win.

It’s going to click eventually, just like it did last season. In the meantime I’m enjoying us being extremely consistent for possibly the first time under klopp.

Two teams both Liverpool and City have played this season are Brighton and Huddlesfield.

Liverpool 1 Brighton 0
City 2 Brighton 0
City 6 Huddlesfield 1
Huddlesfield 0 Liverpool 1

From both teams, City scored 8 while Liverpool scored 2.

Don't think City needs to worry just now.

Dont think anyone said City need to worry as such.
But, I think the point is, this time last season, City were already 12 points ahead of Liverpool, 9 ahead of Chelsea, and 5 ahead of Spurs.
If Spurs beat City next week, which they are more than capable of doing, City will probably drop to fourth, 3 behind Liverpool, and 1 behind both Chelsea and Spurs.
That would be a fair old swing in terms of points from this stage last season.

Liverpool will also need to get past Cardiff first too.
But given your performance against Huddlesfield and Brighton, don't be too cocky.

You also drew with Wolves. That’s the worst result by far of either of the two teams.

Our fixture lists will have been pretty much identical after we play Cardiff and you play Spurs. Let’s see how we are looking after that.

Can't see anything but a City win at Wembley. Sadly.

Maybe, but personally, I can see Spurs taking points off City next weekend.

Oh I hope you're right Jlou

Just can't see Spurs keeping them out. So first off they'll probably need to score twice to get anything from the game, and that's only if City don't run riot and score 3 or more.

I've watched a decent amount of both teams this season so while heart says Spurs win or draw, head says City win.

If the odds are good I might place a small bet on City. Win win for me.

If they lose I lose a few pounds, City lose three points, not bad.

If City win I'll be gutted but the winnings will console my sorry arris.

I think the city v spurs game may well go the same way as LFC v city.

its a must not lose game for spurs. We shouldn't underestimate the pace and running that spurs can apply, city have been scoring a lot though....

I think this is a big test for both sides. the main question for spurs is eriksen. his quality is needed.

Considering we have played spurs and cfc away as well as Leicester and we are level on points with city, well loking at fixtures played we are probably doing the best in the league.

City really only played us as a tough game, thats it!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
GB, who city have played is irrelevant to the fact that they are still a strong outfit as they were last season. Its not like you can accurately pick the games they will drop points at.

All we know is Liverpool have improved their record against the top 4 teams (Chelsea & Spurs away) and against bottom 3 teams with their first win in 2 years yesterday.

Other than that there is absolutely nothing to suggest City will struggle away at Leicester or Spurs or Chelsea where they won comfortably last season.

You keep mentioning Leicester as if City will go there and struggle
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stupid to suggest that its irrelevant in regard to the quality of team, or teams you have faced.
Spurs are more than capable of beating City at Wembley next week, which, all things being equal, would see Liverpool go 3 points clear at the top of the league.
It may not happen, but it wouldnt be the biggest shock in the world if Spurs took points off City next week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is actually irrelevant because you all face the same teams regardless. Only way Liverpool wins the PL is to do the business themselves (take each game as it comes) & not look at what City has done and who they have faced.

I think thats a pointless exercise

A fair point, but we've already won at Wembley

I thought Huddersfield were very unlucky against Liverpool yesterday.

They had a clear penalty not given and a goal that was chalked off due to offside, when actually the ball hit Lallana

Fine margins but I am sure you won't see them as fortunate

Against City, Mahrez should've won the game against Liverpool and against Chelsea, it was a sublime finish that got Liverpool the point.

That's at least 2 points from very fortunate positions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could you please do yourself a favour and go and watch the Chelsea game again - we had at least two chances cleared off the line and several great chances to score that were missed. Compared to Chelsea’s missed chances, we were by far the unluckier team and could easily have come away with all three points.
