Reading the worrying leaks from ‘Der Spiegel’ this morning around the top clubs looking to form a European Super League with no relegation for 20 years and can’t help but think this will be where the football bubble finally bursts.
No fans seem to want this. The proposed competition would have zero drama, no credibility and tears apart the fabric that the game had been built on (history, local rivalries etc). The motivation for top clubs is obvious: money and a guarantee of a seat at the top table but I can only see it being a disaster and driving fans away from the game. The novelty of seeing the beat teams play each other in the latter stages of the Champions League will be replaced by constant games between the top teams that mean nothing as Barca/Juventus or whoever run away with the title.
Personally, even as a lifelong Chelsea fan, it would be something which would make me seriously consider my connection with the club. I just find the whole idea absolutely abhorrent but is there anyone that actually wants this to go ahead?
Does anyone want a European Super League?

A breakaway league will not happen, this will definitely replace the CL in the future.
The cl is a closed shop anyway so don't get the moaning, all this will do is remove those clubs and open up euro competition for others.
Something like a 16 team league.
Drop the league cup for those teams, drop the CL for those teams and all of a sudden you are playing about 16-18 extra games over a season but with a larger squad available.
You could even reduce the prem to 18 which would cut 4 games and should happen anyway as too much crap.is in the prem now.

Glad you're so confident as this is not what I have heard!

If it will not happen - it won't replace the CL...obviously
If it ever does, it will almost certainly replace the CL...how could it not

Because it's supposedly an alternative league to the domestic leagues Sheriff, so we won't play the likes of Everton, Newcastle or West Ham on a league basis.
At least that's how I understood the description of it anyway.

You may be right mate...it will definitely render the CL obsolete though whatever...
won't happen for my money...most wouldn't want it...away support would be difficult and expensive, the other clubs would take legal action allsorts of stuff

This implies that the clubs would form their own league at the expense of their domestic leagues.
Hopefully it will already be dead in the water!

All the legal threats are nonsense as the FA will bend over backwards to accommodate the big clubs whatever they decide to do ultimately as their product dies without them.

The whole point surely - they will lose them!
