CB, CM, RW, ST

This isn't reactionary or football manager before it gets said, just something that's glaringly obvious for most of us to see. Those 4 positions clearly need looking at.

CB..

We are weak, fragile and don't have a commanding leader at the back, we might only need one player there but surely break the bank for koulibaly in January and for 25million Toby from spurs in the summer to partner him? We all laughed at pool but look at the different VVD has made, a leader at the back.

CM..

Matic is woeful, gone are the days of a slow defensive midfielder sitting infront of the defence, now days they're fast and in your face, can always link with your other midfielders and get forward abit too, surely this is the most obtainable target as there's some good options that aren't big names.. e.g neves/ndidi/ndombele?

RW..

No idea really, dembele would cost a fortune, is Malcolm good enough? Whose out there that's available and would come? I do feel we are very loyal to our own lads like Rashford and Lingard when realistically both will never be good enough for that right side atleast, Lingard isn't the kind of player to beat a man or knock it by them with pace. Which I think we need.

ST..

The most difficult one, not many top strikers out there, the obvious one is icardi but he's very loyal to inter and we'd have to spend big, Lukaku and money for him makes too much sense and while Jose is manager, he's a loyalty to players like Lukaku and matic..

I know it goes much deeper than manager or players at the moment but sorting these positions and letting sole dross leave can only improve us either way.

Before you start naming all these positions that need strengthening, you need to start with the manager.

Look at the Liverpool side, how many of their players would you want at Utd. I can only think of Mane and maybe Salah.

Their manager has them playing well and actively competing. We do not have that

absolutely
I said this when we were linked to sanchez. We could have got neymar or mbape and still be awful.
I don't care about new players while this manager is still in charge he will only ruin them imo.

Rather bailly, lindelof, tuanzebe, fosu mensah as our options and sign 1/2 new centre backs.

I'm not understanding. Smalling is the best of all our centre backs, the most experienced too. Very low maintenance, Tuanzebe and co can be good, but in the last three years, both Lindelof and Bailly have been unable to be as consistent as Smalling, why roll the dice and now hope the 2 new defenders do not end up as inconsistent as the 2 we bought who have yet to usurp him as the best CD in the team? Doesn't make any sense.

And before you bin the manager, you need to start with the executive management of the club.

If the club is to recognize its potential once again, it requires new ownership, new executive decision makers and a new football management structure.

It is something I cannot understand. Smalling has been here for ages, not the best with the ball at his feet but is one of the best defenders in the league.

Has played a key role in defence for us in season where we have had the best or close to the best defensive records.

People do not give the guy credit. Vardy and Welbeck and many other players say he is the one defender they hate playing against.

Yep. He’s seriously underrated by many on here. He’s been an absolute beast at times this season.

Smalling is the best defender you have but when you put pressure on him he panics.

Your midfield and defence are the issue. There are no football players there but only headless cloggers.

We have the same in midfield with Wijnaldum, Henderson and Milner. Our defence is now better with Gomez and VVD.

Get a manager who actually coaches and makes players better might be a start. At some point you lot will realize that throwing money at a problem doesn't work.Yes Pep and Klopp have spent a lot but there's clearly a thought process, tactics & a style of play behind it. For most of the players they have signed and/ or inherited they have all improved as players. Even Poch who has no money to spend, improves what he's got. You guys Sign and dump players while paying joke wages & play agricultural hoofball. Jose is basically Tony Pullis with money. Sign who ya like but it wont make a blind bit of difference while he's in charge

Seriously.... WTF was that excuse for a midfield yesterday ??? You sign Fred and he cant get into that 11... Sad !!!!!

Pogba, Mata, Pereira, Young, Shaw and Lindelof are all footballers.

Just in relation to the OP.

The biggest gaps in the squad according to your assessment are the only areas that Jose has invested in. At his recent transfer form you wouldn't let him have your kids pocket money.

He has signed 2 CBs, 3 CMs, 1 x RW and 3 ST, although Ibra was a short term success tbf.
