England have won their group and advance to the finals. So what happens now?
- Knockout Playoffs
A single legged semi final, followed by a single legged final or 3rd place play off.
The semi finals games will be drawn in early December.
All games will be played in Portugal. Semis on 5th and 6th of June and final on 9th.
- The winner of the Nations League do not win a Euro 2020 place.
However, England have guaranteed a second chance if needed. See below.
- Euro 2020 qualifiers start in March. There will be 10 groups of 5 or 6 teams, with the top 2 in each group qualifying for Euro 2020.
England are guaranteed to be in a group of 5 teams.
-4 places will be decided by play-offs. The 4 highest ranked teams in each of the Nations League groups who have not qualified for Euro 2020 already will be involved in these play-offs. Thus if England fail to finish top 2 in their group they are guaranteed a play-off place.
Nations League... whats next?

baffled as to how anyone could find fault with the first running of this??!??!?
Who cares who is busting their ass and who isn't, the prior option was random friendlies where England as an example basically never left their own back yard.
The biggest winners are the lesser nations who can actually play games in which they have a chance and can actually try and play football at last.

I wonder why an Ireland fan thinks the nation's league is a pointless tournament
A trophy is still a trophy. That's why I'm happy we've won some this decade while a supposedly better Spurs side haven't.

An Ireland fan?
I’m English you moron. But that comment doesn’t surprise me because all the positivity towards this tinpot competition is coming from people with a small time mentality where they are trying to make it seem bigger and better than it is.
Is it an improvement on pointless friendlies? 100% yes. The same way these pre season tournaments in Asia/America are more exciting and relevant trips to Austria and Switzerland to play one off matches against lower league European pub teams.
My gripe is that there is no reward for this. Just a tinpot trophy that no country is going to shout to the heavens they have won, apart from, evidently, the English.
There should be a guaranteed spot in the Euros for anybody that wins this. In fact I’d argue anybody who tops their group from the top seeds should qualify automatically and you’d find every single nation (not just the major ones) taking this a hell of a lot more seriously

So you want these to be the qualifiers so that all the qualifying games can now be friendlies........

Yes well done genius. Because 4 of the 24 teams would qualify for the Euros we can bin the qualifiers all together. Once again WELL DONE
