How come Man City tend to sign good players

How come Man City tend to sign good players for not astronomical fees in transfer market today?I mean they don't sign not many players above 70 million pounds and Riyad Mahrez is their most expensive signing so far. Now,they are rumoured to be signing Frenkie De Jong from Ajax.He is also being sought by Barcelona.Man City signed Aymeric Laporte in January transfer window which is another example.Hats off to their scouts and board for getting great players at not extremely high prices.I am saying this with Neymar,Mbappe,Coutinho etc as recent expensive transfers in my mind.Views?Fellow Blues?

Wow.

If anything sums up the bloated mess that is English football, and how the game has moved away from any semblance of reality or relatability, then it's this article.

Anything less than £70m is "not astronomical".

It's actually disgusting that this is acceptable.

For all football fans feeling a bit outraged,I am not saying that 70 million pounds sum is not big.I am talking about the general transfer market. For me personally,1 million pounds or even 100000 pounds is a massive amount pf money.

They may not spend much on £60m + players. But they by far outspend any other club on players in the £40m - £60m bracket.

But paying a fee of £1m for a footballer is acceptable and relatable and within reality for you? The game went past any sort of fiscal ‘relatability’ years ago.

Thanks for putting words into my mouth.

Could you please also tell me what my thoughts are about Brexit, pineapples on pizza and if you should put the milk or water in first when making a cup of coffee?

I didn’t put any words in your mouth, I asked you a question.

You made a statement masked as a question.

Lady luck always fancies the most wicked...Man City are a Lance Armstrong equivalent of a football club.

I'm not sure there are any bargains in there as such but what stands out for me is the lack of flops at the higher end of the list. When Pep spends big money the player seems to work out well so his selection must be spot on.

You probably have to go down to Nolito to find a genuine flop (Danilo possibly).

Not Danilo

He has done well when he has played. At least I think he has. Pretty solid squad player.

Claudio Bravo hasn't been great but he redeemed himself in my eyes last season with some of his performances in the League Cup.

All in all Guardiola has bought well.
