Been a while. What you currently reading/listening to on Audiobook?

What always amuses me about that whole run is we'd played so well in the CL, 2003 onwards, no-one could say we didn't deserve to win at least one CL during that timeframe, the number of players who deserved it (Drogba being at the forefront) yet that 2011-12 campaign was the flukiest run with the weakest squad up against some of the strongest opponents we had in those eight years.

One of those things that makes you think how wonderfully insane football can be

Well mate. Been listening to loads of twilight zone radio plays on youtube. Would reccommend them.

2012 is the one thing that takes away everything I ever believed about being practical

What do I mean by that? As you pointed out, for whatever reason better Chelsea teams and better equipped Chelsea teams had failed to win it.

Our 2012 team was not only the least equipped since Roman bought the club but also a few players past their best not to mention at one point 2-0 down with 10 men in Barcelona.

For me that suggest it must’ve been fate, that that core of players were destined to win the trophy. I can’t think any other explanation for it. And even though WUMs like to use it to have dig, JT had earned the right to lift the trophy. No just because he’d shared previously with Super Frank, but also I think he and Ash at the back held us together (along with the post) against Barca at the Bridge.

Am currently on Clear & Present Danger. What a book. I started listening to it a while ago, then stopped and got distracted by the Navarone series and then the whole Sharpe series (again). But I went back to Jack Ryan and this time i will stick with him

Absolutely right. He'd earned it.

I get anyone who'll call the 2011-12 campaign undeserving in isolation. Yeah we defended very well but lets be real, we had a sh!t ton of luck as well - if Sanchez & Fabregas' touches had been just fictionally better we could've been 0-3 down at SB before Drogba even scored, not even counting some of the great chances Cavani missed unmarked in the last 16 match against Napoli.

But what no-one can deny, I don't care how big a WUM they are, is that core group of players (Cech-Terry-Lampard-Drogba) deserved a CL winners medal based off the rotten luck that robbed them of it prior to 2012. Ancelotti's years aside, where we were simply beaten by better teams, you could legitimately argue a case for us deserving to progress - and most of the time we exited in the S/F so that's one game away on numerous occasions

It's nuts to think that the team that won it started Bosingwa, Mikel, Kalou and Bertrand But they all had the games of their lives. Favourite ever day as a Chelsea fan for sure.

Di Matteo as manager too, i love him but he's a poor, poor manager.

This also kind of adds to the fate argument, the man who had his career cut short by injury, returns to the club wins the ultimate prize with the extra added bonus of fecking over the club he toyed with and was never beaten by as a player

Also weirdly all the heartbreak of the past ending up getting us Hazard, he made it clear CL football was a dealbreaker for whoever he choose from Lillie and there's no way in hell the old guard would have put the inhuman effort in that they did on the run to Munich had they already won it 2/3 times.

Very true, no CL win in 2012 and Hazard's playing in Manchester right now or Real having transferred from Manchester. 100%.

But...... and this is just my opinion, but had we won the CL before 2010 (especially if it was more than once), I reckon there's a very good chance we'd have wound up signing Neymar that summer. The interest was legit and he was seriously considering it, allegedly was Pele who talked him round too staying at Santos a couple more years, but had we been a CL winning club by that point who knows?
