DPL vs Blackpool

It wasn’t a particularly exciting game but apart from two pretty good chances that Blackpool missed early on, they didn’t really trouble us too much in my opinion.
That was down to some really good defending, especially by Butler.
We bossed the midfield areas and with Marquis and May we had two forwards who gave the Blackpool defenders plenty to think about.
Their constant closing down of them forced them to make hurried passes and as a result, they gave us the ball back many times.

Herbies goal was an absolute screamer, one of the best he will probably ever score.
He is playing more like Steve Gerrard as each week goes by, even his goal celebration is the same.
A good finish too by Marquis which will do him a load of good.
Hopefully he will go on a scoring run again now.
We now have a run of fixtures that could see a decent points haul as the dodgy spell appears to have passed.
Six first team games unbeaten now.

Agree with everything there Hound. What are your thoughts on Anderson, when he got booked, very strange.
The next two months, Dec, Jan, we could possibly win them all. I don't think we would, but to stay unbeaten would be a right boost to our hopes of finishing in the play offs.
As for the coach load of scouts that turn up every game to watch us, let's hope some of them are here to see how well we've developed Mr Kane and would like to offer us some of the "ruff diamonds" too. ( and not just to check up on Marquis, Mason )

Zigger, I thought that Anderson did really well and him and AB, in the main, dominated the Blackpool forwards.
Anderson was a bit ring rusty in his first game back in the team but has looked good since.
He has limitations to his play and he knows it so he is a no nonsense defender and takes no chances.

As fo4 his booking, the way I saw it was that he stopped low to win a header, the Blackpool player tried to kick the ball and there was just a coming together of the players.
I didn’t even think it was a foul.
I haven’t had the benefit of seeing a replay though so am only going on how I remember it.
I thought a booking was not an option for the ref.
The ref by the way was shocking in the first half but did improve a bit after half time.
I thought he should have sent off one of their defenders late on though when Wilks turned him on the edge of the box and was pulled down when he would have been through on goal with only the keeper to beat.

Blackpool were strong, tall and yet skilful and it makes you wonder with their resources how they have assembled such an outfit ideally suited to League 1. That we held them off so effectively in the second half shows how improved the defensive organisation is.

May is rather like the small dog that harries much larger livestock, but he should take lessons from Marquis in the art of winning free kicks because refs seem to think that he is trying it one even when he is genuinely fouled.

It was very noticeable that we pressed forward much more than we did against Wimbledon which is when I last saw a complete match.

Marquis gave his usual 100%, but he seems to be going through a bad patch at the moment.

A very good performance but not as smoothly flowing as it was at Barnsley. Other than the two chances Hound mentioned, it was a very good defensive performance against a big talented side.
Anderson is getting back to his form of last season, but I wish he and Buts would head our corners as well as they did last season when they scored several goals.
The ref made some poor decisions. Anderson's yellow was not justified. I did not think it was a foul, but the commentators on iFollow did but did not agree with the yellow. There was an occasion when Buts was aggressively pushed over in our area that resulted in a corner. If the Tangerines had scored, I'd have been really annoyed. That foul on Wilks should have been a red not just a yellow. Maybe the ref thought he was too far from goal, but he would have been clear with just the GK to beat. Should there be clearer definitions for this type of booking? - there is much variation between referees, even in the Premier League.
If we could just improve the choice and quality of the final attacking pass, and improve our shot conversion rate, we'd be getting some substantial wins.
I'm really glad Marquis scored with excellent control and finish. Earlier in the game, other than effort, he was below par as he has been in the last few game. Recently he has seemed a little reluctant to shoot and sometimes passes with poor choice or quality. Could this result from the misses he has made and hopefully the goal will give him full confidence in his own finishing and he goes on a scoring run.
